Has anybody got a similar problem with their passenger side door mirror that I have? Is there a fix? (on a 2002 4/4).

Basically it seems impossible to get the passenger side door mirror to swivel inwards enough to give a useful rear view of the road. It is excellent for seeing people on the footpath after you have passed them and for checking wildlife in hedgerows.

What seems to be the problem is that the arm that holds the mirror is at an angle that prevents sufficient inward movement of the mirror itself. At the point where the mirror frame can go no further inward because of contact with the arm it is still not showing the traffic behind.

I've tried swivelling the mirror around to see if it would help if it was more vertical than horizontal but that still does not work. I suspect that the arm needs to be brought in more.

You can move the arm, pull it out a bit first. It's spring loaded and "springs" back in to some groves. Hope this poor explanation helps!

I had the same problem Manxmog, in the end I replaced the mirrors (complete with arms) with round ones (from the factory) and that solved it. There may be cheaper fixes of course, but I planned on switching to round mirrors anyway.

I guess they are the factory fitted mirrors? I had the same problem with mine and changed them for round ones a week after buying the car. There's far more adjustment in them.

Me, too! There's a lot on TM about the benefits of round mirrors.

Rounds are better - but if that's what you already have, then the ratchet spring-loader will make a difference. If you've already tried that and no improvement, then is there a possibility that your 'stem' is stuck/ bent/ defective?

The round mirrors fitted to our car by the factory last year have exactly the same problem. I have a set if anyone wants them. I replaced them with a set from Phoenix Design http://www.morganhoods.com/id31.html .

There are other aftermarket round mirrors that do work. There was a recent thread on the subject here

I got rid of the door mirrors altogether and rely on the centre one and a glance back.

I've got some sympathy with this view. Door-mounted mirrors were never a good idea. I blame Starsky & Hutch and Frank Cannon, and all those other early 1970s US shows where we first saw door mirrors. Whatever happened to good old wing mirrors?
