I got rid of the door mirrors altogether and rely on the centre one and a glance back. Perhaps it comes from driving trucks and vans but I would hate not having side mirrors. I use them every time I use reverse, change lanes etc.

Possibly the angel of the mirror is out of focus. If I'm right you could loosen the arm of the mirror with a screwdriver placed in the holder, turn it a bit in, fix it and make use of the new "angel window" of the mirror itself. Or is this method only possible with round mirrors anyway...

I got rid of the door mirrors altogether and rely on the centre one and a glance back. I've got some sympathy with this view. Door-mounted mirrors were never a good idea. I blame Starsky & Hutch and Frank Cannon, and all those other early 1970s US shows where we first saw door mirrors. Whatever happened to good old  wing mirrors? Much smaller field of view from a wing mounted mirror.....imagine what you would see if standard rear view mirror was mounted on the tip of the bonnet. I'm guessing the change came about because of safety reasons. I do agree wing mirrors look good though. Neil.

Tried that with the factory fitted round mirror but the only way the passenger side mirror could be used was if the arm was in the most upright position. Not only does this look strange but it gives a poor view for parking or reversing into the garage etc.

Thanks very much everyone for the comments. I'll try the suggestions step at a time ending with replacement if necessary.
I find the door mounted mirrors useful for reversing into my garage and also, when the hood is up, a help in crowded situations and on motorways. At present the left one is useful for looking at shapely legs on the footpath but little else....

Reversing into the garage is so much easier with round door mirrors. Also, it has occurred to me since - is it not illegal to drive without at least an OS door mirror? No doubt I will find out quickly if I am wrong...

Whether a car is illegal to drive without a door mirror would, I think, depend upon the Construction and Use Regulations for the car when it was manufactured.

Current modern (as of just a few years ago) C&U regs require one offside mirror, plus one other mirror - this can be either internal or on the nearside.
No idea what the rules were in the 70s, but I can probably find them...
