Mainly baseball cap with lanyard clipping it to the back of my collar just in case - also has the added advantage of shading the eyes from the sun. I know I keep banging on about it - but don`t forget the sunscreen -arms, neck , ears and face - sun damage and resultant cancers etc. are on the increase.

You could well be right - just feel less of a Muppet in it than a baseball cap at my age.

Would a Tilley work in summer, use one sailing? Tilley Hats I've worn mine at lower speeds in the three wheeler, but the brim bends a bit as it's only cotton.

I have to admit that the lovely Lady Budster (having worked in the couture fashion industry) has a significant influence on my hats! I wouldn't say that I was under the thumb on this issue, but I have listed below the hats that are available depending on the occasion! A Holdens motoring cap (floppy brim job) A Summer weight flat cap, acquired prior to last years Le Mans Classic. A Barbour fabric flying helmet. A sailing cap A deer-stalker (honestly!!) A fabric panama. My own preference is a black woolly beanie, but that prompts a "why on earth are you wearing that?" However, she is worth it and to loosely quote Boshers from last years Le Mans Classic, on meeting tlLB for the first time. "Cor! What on earth are you doing with an ugly git like him"So a silly hat is a small price to pay!! Bud __________ 2003 - 4/4

I totally agree Mr B! You are a lucky man!!
I like flat caps and the Lovely Lady B persuaded me as well, to buy one at Holdens. Sadly my head must not be a flat cap shape as it never stays on at speed! So it's back to either a baseball cap ....one with an elastic tensioner at the back which keeps it on even when passing high sided lorries on the motorway at speed coming back from Paris over the past couple of days.....or a leather flying helmet in which I'm sure I look a bit of a plonker!

Thanks all, looks like it's a Baseball cap and a bit of string then i'm to young for a flat cap I've got the flying helmet

I have a MSCC baseball cap (with flaps) for the summer or sunny days, (held on around the neck with a lanyard used for swipe passes at work) and a M&S Trapper hat for winter (my best Christmas present ever)
