Hi Guys. I have been looking at the same project and replacing the current cover with the RSD Venturi 5 blade, contrast cut unit. I emailed M Rutter who replied he was not sure where the covers came from (?) but what i think is important to remember is the RSD assume their units are been fitted to an engine which redirect crankcase breathing fumes and the backing plates that come with the unit incoporate this to direct back into the carburettor. In my email to MR I asked if the backing plate was secured to the cylinders but I got no response. As far as I can see from trade pictures I think the MR fitted filter is simply mounted onto the throat of the carb with no cylinder support via the backing plate! If this is the case then it's not a good idea, as all that weight would be hanging on the carb throat! The carb screw mounting on our engines is 12-4-8 O'clock and I believe is the same as on the S&S E/G so if this option of fitment for the RSD unit is chosen we could be in a good starting place. An email to S&S resulted in a stern reply that the filting of the RSD would invalidate the Morgan warranty.....no surprise there! I was also told that the quoted £395 was plus duty too by the way. I am still in comms with S&S, RSD and couple of custom shops in the uk. Will keep you posted if I get anymore sensible replies from the suppliers.
Crowbar, I put an S&S on my car at Brighton. We drilled 3 holes to orient the unit and it was done. Photo attached. By the way, this was the car you drove at Brighton. Rick
Normally, the installation of an air cleaner kit and performance mufflers will not cause any tuning problems for stock closed loop fuel injection systems, as they can easily accommodate the additional fuel requirements. The addition of performance cams will require additional tuning for proper operation.
