Corrosion is a big issue here in cars that are not regularly used in tanks and fuel lines, due to water absorption into the fuel by the Ethanol and it only takes 3 teaspoons of water in 10 gallons petrol/ethanol for it to then separate and then the ethanol becomes much more corrosive.

I was thinking a Getrag Porsche box and I thought the Aus. rear end was supposed to be bullet proof, might need some axle tramp bars though. Devil6

Well I received a phone call from Shell today from a very nice helpful Japanese lady. The bottom line is as below from an extract from the email she followed up with, also she supplied the site address which I suggest you go to and read up on the Ethanol section. If E10 hits then its definitely time to take action on tuning and already we need to think about cars stored up over the winter. At the link below are tested additives for Ethanol/Petrol fuels.

Shell quote
"Shell currently has no plans to increase ethanol content in petrol
beyond 5% in the UK. For the latest information on biofuel
legislation in the UK, please visit the Department for Transport's
website trough this link http://www.dft.gov.uk/.

Most vehicles manufactured after 1991 are suitable for petrol with 5%
ethanol. For vehicles older than this or for those that have any
specific design features or modifications, we strongly recommend that
customers consult their vehicle manufacturer to determine whether
their vehicle is compatible with ethanol-containing fuels before
filling up. "

Consulting the manufacturer of a vintage car is going to be tricky.

Buy a ouija board I suppose.

But for a Morgan which spirit would you contact? Morgan, Buick, Rover, Ford, Standard, Triumph, Fiat, for engines and then there is the manufacturers of the other bits that see fuel. Could be an interesting seance.

thinking
