When I took Woodstock to France, we were lined up with all the sports cars and parked with the lorries as there were next to no ramps to negotiate, just the main ones. Truthfully, the ferry loaders worried far more than I did.
Tell them when you book, and arrive in plenty of time to allow them to juggle the loading.

Must try the Tunnel sometime, but it is so far from Devon and a real pain to drive to Folkestone from here. We always try to minimise the UK mileage and maximise the mileage in France, thus Brittany Ferries from Plymouth.

I sailed a few times on the Norman Arrow - a cat that was capable of 40 knots. Pretty amazing and a fairly rapid time to France from Portsmouth. I'm not sure it runs anymore.

We were fully loaded and very low when we crossed from Portsmouth to Caen with Brittany. We told them that we were worried about clearance and they had us wait with the trucks and then put us on after a few trucks had loaded. There were no ramps at all, it was almost completely level. We finished up right at the front to one side. When we arrived they unloaded the trucks next to us and then us. We were one of the first cars to come off

Thanks all. Very much reassured.
I was going to take the DFDS Harwich to Esjberg ferry and drive up to Gothenberg however after much debate my wife has persuaded me I need a rest, so driving is off the agenda!!!! Off to Latvia for the week!!!
The contributions are very much appreciated and will come in handy for our next trip. Cheers.

Rob Good things come to those who wait but they've usually been left by those who got there first!
