+2, Jays.

Good advice Robbie. I got a metre of said tape from said chap in Miscellany. Stopped squeek for some time, then returned. When it returned, I noted that the tape had been rubbed out of position, so replacement strip applied.

As a metre is supplied, this will last for several reapplications !

We have found the source of the annoying noise and its nothing to do with the side screens blush

I took the car to Richard Thornes and one of their mechanics, Charlotte, and told her about the noisy leaf springs and the scritching scratching sound from the area of the door/ rear quarter panel. She took the car for a drive and said that bouth sounds were connected with the leaf spring and the leaf spring bushes. She said that these could get noisy until they have worn in a little or if they are insufficiently lubed. Due to the position of the leaf springs the scritching scratching can sound as if it is coming from the door.

She agreed the sound was quite bad so she did a quick lube of the mounts for me. She said I might not notice a difference for about 100 miles. She hoped this would cure it but it might not be sufficient in which case they will have the car in and do a more comprehensive job on the leaf springs.

Driving home the tooting sound from the leaf springs is better but the incredibly annoying scritching scratching sound has not yet gone away. Anyway, I am pleased that the problem has been identified and can now be dealt with cheers

If it is the leaf spring, it is well worth jacking the back of the car up and spraying some motorcyle chain lube on them. . . works wonders. The lube gets between the leaves, before setting off.
I use Castrol Chain Wax.

I think this is probably what they did for me today, Bud. But I think I will get some chain lube and give it a try myself if the noise does not go away. Otherwise, my dealer can put it right, I hope !

Leaf springs still tooting and spring bushes in both rear quarter panels rattling like crazy after about 10 miles. The noise is driving me nuts - it makes the car unpleasant to drive.

Just waiting for a date from my dealer for the car to go in - I hope they can sort it out without to much fuss.
