MrPB - I wouldn't worry overly. I have a LHD Renaulsport Spider here in the UK and its not a problem. In fact it's rather cool, as it was designed to be LHD, by LHD people in a LHD country with balanced LHD handling. Replace the L for an R and the same applies to the Morgan I reckon. It's too narrow to be a problem surely?!

If its a trouble, sell it in the UK (or to Japan), and I'm sure you'll get good money for it.

Again, this is for the dealer to correct as you would naturally have assumed that a car ordered for Germany would be LHD. As you say, you want a LHD car so the suggestion about possibly getting used to RHD does not apply. Do not accept delivery under any circumstances or the problem will be yours. There is a ready market for new 3 wheelers in the UK, it should be very easy for any UK dealer to sell it, but I presume your dealer will have to pay for shipping back to UK. Also there are plenty of LHD 3-wheelers being built - I was at the factory a couple of weeks ago and the majority being built were LHD!

Being RHD in a LHD market will devalue the car. Reject the car.

The dealer owed you a duty of care and failed.

I can't understand why nobody spotted this error and questioned it.

Also, the speedo is in miles? That makes two faults if the car is meant for the continental EU.

I would reject it, too.

Love the colour, however, for some inexplicable reason... *big smile*

Disappointing and certainly, as has been said many times above, an issue I would be asking the dealer to resolve. Unless you specifically asked for a non-LHD vehicle (and had you done so, as the supplier, I would have asked you to confirm in writing as a matter of best practice and to avoid any issues such as this), it is understandable for you to assume the vehicle will be supplied in the configuration relevant to the country of delivery.

Quite agree - is there a law of some sort along the lines of not fit for purpose as there is in the UK?

Part of the problem is the contract. As the OP signed it, unless there is yards of it in an exceedingly small font, I bet German law is that he agreed with it and the terms and conditions etc. The relatively small point of a miles per hour speedo in a German market car would be cheaply rectified by its replacement with a kilometer unit.

However, and this is something I have no idea about, are there any any other differences in specifications? The steering wheel and speedo suggest a UK market car, does the German one differ in other respects? Given the EU probably not, but ought to be checked as anything that says this is not a car for Germany will help.

While I'd normally suggest taking a matter in the first instance to the dealer, I think the OP needs to speak to a solicitor and see where he stands.

We haven't yet heard the dealers response though have we? Whilst contractually it would appear Op is stuffed, it may well be that the dealer is organising another LHD car and arranging something to send the car back to the UK.

I of course have no idea if this is the case but we have no idea it isn't? It of course doesn't in anyway address the OP's frustration especially having already waited a while, but however we look at it in the light of day he isn't without some blame?

Probably the headlights need to be replaced than as well,if the car is completely specified for RHD and will be used in LHD traffic.

I think this is quite extraordinary.

Firstly the dealer made an error. As a customer signing the order the items one would check are things like colour, trim, options etc. One would never expect to check to see if they had specified the steering wheel was on the right or the left, this would be taken for granted. As previously mentioned it seems the car has been built to complete UK spec including lights and speedo. I wonder why someone at Morgan during the whole order and build process did not question why a UK spec car was being built for a German dealer.

I know that a German dealer changed a new Plus 4 SS to left hand drive with the help of parts from the factory last year. If there are no differences in the actual main frame perhaps it would be quicker and easier to do a conversion on the car in Germany than to send it back. If this can not be done I believe you should reject the car and insist on being given the car you wanted. It was after all the dealer who made the error in completing the form according to your verbal instructions. I also believe Morgan should come to the party too because they should have queried the fairly obvious error.

None of this should be at your expense.
