I have never heard of a parachute to lower the plane down before, except for the model aircraft made by my F-I-L.

I believe plane parachutes are mostly a microlight thing. Could be wrong though.

I believe this is unique thing to Cirrus aircraft. It comes down vertically, and seems to work, as plenty of occurences with a good outcome. Usually only used if pilot loses control (eg disoriented in cloud) or has perhaps had a medical emergency. Expensive decision to deploy one as the plane is written off (iro £200K)

I watched a programme about these parachutes - "How It's Made" or "How do they do it"series or similar. They designed the system for light aircraft and can be fitted to many makes if suitable. Apparently the worst job in the factory is loading the rockets to fire off the parachute... done by a matter of fact but fastidious woman! It's an awesom invention and they showed film of it in use. * Is it true that Morgan played round with ejectable anchors as emergency brakes along similar idea?

Saw this on the telly news - incredible. My friend (a blind one -yes!!) has a chute fitted to his microlight when he flew England - Australia. And you thought I was bonkers!! Didn`t Milton write something about this - Parachute lost??
