I am new to this forum. I am planning to get a fairly new Roadster very soon and wondered if anyone out there could tell whether an alarm system is fitted as standard. If so, what sort? If not, why? Many thanks.

I think the idea is that the average 'tea leaf' would be caught exhasted with hands still clasped to the handbrake, locked in a futile battle to depress the button and release it...

I feel that a Morgan is the least likely car to get stolen - and am quite happy leaving mine open in the Tesco car park in a fairly rough area of town. Having said that, I do have a 'secret' ignition isolator switch that I use just in case !

It is fitted with a good immobiliser, as part of the engine management. The specialist insurers say theft and vandalism are very rare indeed. Is it that your insurer (not a Morgan specialist perhaps?) is insisting that an alarm be fitted? If you speak to someone like http://www.moginsurance.com/you will find they don't expect an alarm, and the premiums are very reasonable, being based on classic car policies. My only concern is leaving luggage in or on the car, as it would be very vulnerable.

Yes, the reason I asked about an alarm was that I went through my insurance company's website (Direct Line) to see what the insurance cost might be, and it insisted that an alarm was fitted. I insure my TVR Griffith 500 through them with a surprisingly reasonable price.
Perhaps its time to look elsewhere. I will certainly look at the insurance company you mentioned.

I use Peter Best www.peterbestinsurance.co.uk/ who seem also reasonable and dno't ask for an alarm on my 97 +4.

Thanks, I will look at this company too. Ideally, I want to find someone that will give me a good deal on a Roadster and my TVR combined. Only one will be on the road at a time, so I hope I can get a discount - however, both are available to be stolen!

Have you also try Churchill, they 're surprisingly reasonable and also does a two car policy

Have you also try Churchill, they 're surprisingly reasonable and also does a two car policy I've also found A-Plan to be very good and exceptionally capable when it comes to quirky cars. You need to pick and choose the location; however, if you don't have any luck with your local branch, let me know and I'll give you the contact details of a good one.
