I am sure this must have been talked about many times but!!!
It can not just be me that thinks the fit is just not acceptable.

It can't be too precise as it has to allow for movement of the body. That said some fit better than others...my replacement bonnet is a better fit than the original. All part of the hand built attraction of the car!

Which fit line are you concerned about?

In general, the front and rear top edges should be an even fit, though as Jays has said, there needs to be clearance due to the body flex.
Where I find a variation is along the line at the bottom edge of the bonnet, where it meets the wing. Again, there needs to be a clearance, (but the gap should be fairly even along its length); however the size of the gap does vary amongst different cars.
I am not sure if this was a model/era issue, but the variation is noticeable on your fingers, when you open the bonnets of a number of cars.

In my experience, MMC take immense pride and trouble in the fit of the bonnets, as anyone who has seen John Bishop and the boys working will confirm.

As I saw at the factory a few weeks ago - great care is taken.

Now how do you display that in the post?

Mine has a significant gap along the bottom edge, but this is preferable to chafed paint on the wings. And it lets some hot air out I suppose.

Well, I'm not very impressed by this on my new 4 seater. The uneven gap at the front of the bonnet is causing scratches on the central chrome strip and I've only opened it twice !

Don't get me wrong, I love the car to bits, but there are a few quality issues I'm not terribly impressed by.

I see what you mean! There is no excuse for that and I'd get the factory to rectify it.

Get it back to the dealer and get it sorted. I would expect them to renew the Crome strip as well.
