Hi all,
I've got a 1980 4/4 with a fixed windscreen and mounting brackets for aeroscreens fitted (aeroscreens in a pouch came with the car). I suspect in the midsts of time that the correct folding screen probably went walkies, and I now fancy trying out the aeroscreens so this may be a really simple question, but is it much of a job to take the windscreen off?
It looks like there are three or so about 10mm bolts through the base of the frame into the scuttle each side. Do I just undo those?

What I have learned about my Morgan so far is that Morgan don't really do captive nuts anywhere else on the car, so while these bolts look obvious I hoped someone could clarify if they are captive on the back? If not they look a bit of a pig to get at, so any tips a) for getting at them, b) confirming it is those bolts I need to undo and c) absolute 'don't do that' warnings to prevent me shattering the screen through bad technique or general clumsiness. Peoples views about removing the wiper blades while the screen is off are also welcomed.

Mine is removed by unbolting the two bolts at the bottom of the pillars and removing the stud which attaches the screen to the top of the padded dash . Very simple. Remove the wipers from their bezels first with a little help from a screwdriver to lever them off.

Yes but its a two man job if you wish to play safe one slip and you can catch the body or smash the screen . Two set of hands can pick it off and put it down ( one each side ) . Beware about putting it against the garage wall my mate tripped over it and SMASH it went heard of a few lads who did the same . The three screws that hold the support to the screen each side differ in size so BEWARE make a note if you remove them . But you are just taking the screen off so no need to touch them .

This bit is key. Get them the wrong way around and you WILL crack your windscreen.

You'll want to remove your windshield wiper arms when you install the Brooklands-style windscreens. This will leave the raw-looking wiper splined stubs protruding. The splines are 1/2 inch in diameter. You can find 1/2" (or the appropriate metric size) rubber table leg ends in the Morgan department at your favorite do-it-yourself store that will neatly cover the splined end, thus protecting them and looking a lot better, too.

If you are careful it is a one man job getting the screen off. A large towel or blanket over the bonnet to lay it on once off. Stand up in the middle of the car to lift the screen up out of the mounting plinths.

If you want a bit more glitz (and want to spend money!) Heart of England do chrome covers for the wiper stubs.

I have an HoE folding screen. It just bolts into place, with all the caveats from above. As the steel bolts screw into the alloy mount on rebuilding I put on some copper slip to stop the galvanice corrosion.

Watch racers, hillclimbers or sprinters get ready. Many cars that are driven to events have the screen removed and put back at the end for the drive home.

Not something I can advise on, despite having done it many times for events - you just get used to whipping it off!

I would caution though, the body mount on a 1972 car is plated brass and although the bolts need to be firm - do not over tighten and strip threads. I had to remake one of my bolt holes. Helicoiling would be the preferred method, but I had access to a well equipped workshop so did it a different way.

Brave man , I'm not that brave . I have those H.O.E nuts that cover and they look very nice.

The latter body mounts are aluminium. I didn't think they would take too much removing & replacing the bolts so I bought the folding screens
