i've got a pronounced chirping/squeaking noise upon downshifting in to 2nd or 1st for engine braking. if you take the car out of gear there's no noise.

I removed the plastic cover in the boot and identified the noise as belt related as when rolling the car back and forth you could hear it.

at first was thinking belt lube would fix it but after searching for belt lube online the harley guys aren't fans and attribute the noise to a belt tension issue.

anyone else have this problem? i've got about 3,000 miles on my car and it started about 500-800 miles ago.

thoughts? also struggling to find a good mechanic in the bay area as the car guys don't want to touch it and the bike guys are scared as well and also complain about their lack of space in the shop.

I had a similar noise a while ago and enquired about lube ,as you say Harley people dont seem to like it. Mine always seemed worse when driving slowly, lately its stopped doing it ,I did wonder if it was related to dry weather . There seem to be various noises that come and go for no apparent reason !

I have locked the rear wheel unexpectedly when shifting down to 2nd or 1st at speed a few times, that makes a chirping noise...

Blake I have this on my 3 wheeler which is currently in for a service, when I collect I'll see if they have sorted it out. I was told that it's probably a belt alignment issue.

Collecting on Saturday so let you know then.

just dropped the car off at local mechanic who was enthusiastic towards a challenge. can't tell you how many bike shops turned it down. mechanic agreed the noise is coming from the belt rubbing up against the gear (away from the tire) due to the wheel/belt being properly aligned which made the belt migrate to the edge which then causes the squeaking.

they are working on it as we speak and hopefully should have some news in the next few hours.

problem solved. the mechanic had the car for about an hour or so, readjusted the belt/rear wheel alignment so the belt now sits in the middle of the gear and not rubbing against the edge. all is well in the universe. now just have to deal with the fact i'm leaving on a business trip for a week and will be morgan-less....i guess if these are the big problems that face us than things are going pretty well!

My cat too "developed" this squeel after being serviced. The Drive belt was Bar tight and out of alignment - its at the factory now for various other bits - and this issue - will report back when I get the Car:)))

I've got it and it is a bit worse than when serviced. I'll quote this thread when I book it in. Ta.
