Anyone know anything about this ? It's mentioned on page 81 of current edition of MOG , to be featured in next months magazine.

I believe the suggestion is to race the cars on a track with no bumps and no tricky cambers. There has been a proposal that corners should also be limited to avoid introducing instability issues or being tighter than the steering lock allows. The Monaco F1 road-circuit has already been ruled out for this reason.

To meet latest EU regulation on racing tricycles they will be limited to 55mph, and will require a 200kg roll-cage around the driver's head which will make the car extremely unstable in corners. Given that rolling the car over is no longer a problem (because of the cage to protect the driver) the EU regards this as the best compromise.

Drivers need to be over 75 with an HGV licence as well as full car and motorcycle licences, because the EU has been informed that there were commercial versions of the original 3 wheeler, and are concerned that the cars may be used in lorry races due to the new bulk brought in by the roll-cage.

The cars will also be required to meet a minimum 35mpg average to comply with latest emission rules.

And they need to be silenced too to meet latest noise rules.

The only way round this is to introduce a vestigial 'fourth wheel' to allow the car to be registered as a normal car in which case normal motor-racing rules will be allowed to apply. Some early sketches of a 3-wheeler with a small 4th wheel on the back of the car on the driver's side (to maximise weight imbalance) have been drafted, allegedly.

Because of this weight imbalance these 4-wheeled derivative cars are rumoured to be only allowed to race on oval tracks of the right orientation, so will be limited to the US racing series.

The cars may be sponsored by Pampers, Specsavers and Zimmer to suit the age of the drivers and typical Morgan ownership profiles (according to market research).

I truly hope these evil rumours are all incorrect and can't wait to see the real thing!!

Not seen the report in Mog mag, but three wheeler racing is governed by the Auto Cycle Union in the UK and they have a race, sprint and hillclimb capacity limit of, I think, 1300cc. So the five speeder is inelegable for these, but you could I think do straight line events against the clock, ie drag racing.

I believe that 1300cc limit may be altered. But I can't remember where I read that now... confused2

If it's at Cholmondeley I suspect that it is doing demonstration runs rather than racing.

Would be good to see a race series for them though!

I think it is Cholmondeley where Andrew English was gunning the Gulf M3W up the hill. He managed to lift the front wheels off the ground.
