So even though my need for this will be a ways off, I was still somewhat curious. What, besides what's availble from Morgan, would you use to protect your bonnet paint from wear from the leather strap?

If you're worried about messing up your paint, don't use a strap. I don't know any Morgan owners who use one. Although they look quaint, they contravene the First Rule of Sportscars : If it doesn't make the car go faster, handle better, or stop quicker, it has no place on the car and should be discarded.

I have a bonnet strap on both my Morgan's. Perhaps discarding bumpers also would be a good thing to do if you have them fitted as they do not contribute anything to make the car go faster, handle better or stop quicker and they are heavier than a bonnet strap.

Yup, bumpers won't be going back on. Completely agree that they don't contribute much to looks or weight and honestly, not to safety either.

Well, how about heaters? Turn signals, headlights? Mirrors, passenger seats, seat belts, etc. If I wanted a pure racing car, I might build one like that.
I have a strap because:
A. It keeps my bonnet from rattling.
B. The women like it.

The bonnet strap is functional for racing because it provides back-up protection if the bonnet latches slip at high speed and flexing. My local race track requires bonnet straps for classic-style cars.

Now I understand why my Morgan-owning friends and I don't use bonnet straps: 1. We don't mind that our bonnets rattle 2. We're not good enough to go racing 3. No woman in their right minds would give any of us a second glance Bonnet straps are great if you like the look, but they do damage the paintwork, and go manky in the rain.

They must be putting some weight on then if that fits around their waist . Well, how about heaters? Turn signals, headlights? Mirrors, passenger seats, seat belts, etc. If I wanted a pure racing car, I might build one like that.
