This is in some ways linked to the cooling issues thread we have but I've put it up separately for reasons which should become obvious
I'm now about six months into running my 4/4 Silvertop on " Evans" I'm very happy with it so far and it is giving me a lower water temp than I had before ( The 'old' reading wasn't a problem in any way- I just fancied trying out the Evans.
A few of my biker mates swear by it but I've not yet come across anyone else who is using it in Morgan. I'll post on any updates in my own experience but was wondering if anyone else was trying it?
On a different cooling issue. I'm also very pleased with the set of bespoke silicone hoses Paul Roos made for me I know John T also has a set so. again, any shared comments on what people have found with them would be of interest
Cheers

I would be tempted to use it if I could get it down under....

For the owners of very old cars:
A German Classic Car Magazine has tried this coolant, and it seems that it does NOT work with thermosiphon cooling systems, i.e. without a water pump. Probably because the density does not decrease like water when it heats up.
With a conventional cooling system they reported that the temperature wet up from around 85 degrees with water to around 100 degrees with Evans Liquid.

I have heard they leak , but have not spotted any yet . I purchased S/steel J/clips for them all and make sure they are checked . The problem with the water pipes was Morgan cut them short and left very little metal edge to fit the hose on so I asked Ben Duncan to solder bits on the end of all the pipes and now have a length of metal to fasten the hose onto .Seem to work far better than rubber and my heater does give a fraction more heat , yet the engine temp is the same . Nice to help other mog owners at times , I have given the Paul Roose address to a lot of people inc Phil at B.H.M. On a different cooling issue. I'm also very pleased with the set of bespoke silicone hoses Paul Roos made for me I know John T also has a set so. again, any shared comments on what people have found with them would be of interest Cheers [/quote]

Cheers I am tempted by this, I posted last year but nobody came back who had used it so I look forward to any updates. I don't have a big overheating problem, gauge indicates about 105 when warmed up, but I was more interested in the anti-corrosion properties and the fact that the hoses etc would be under less pressure.

Interesting that the web page I looked at that explains this product used a +8 to demonstrate how to covert from water to the waterless coolant. Richard they do sell it in Australia, mainly on the east coast. The dealer listed in Perth looks a little dodgy. You also have to buy a prep fluid to get all the residual water out of your system after you have drained it. I wond how it goes after using a good quality coolant and if the prep rep get that out as well

Research the subject on the web!
There are a lot of opinions in both camps, ie it's useless/the best thing since sliced bread. Most 'for' views are a variation on 'I've spent a lot of money, so it must be good' with very little science backing them up. I did read a very technical 'against' web page but it has to be said, the writer had a financial interest in a competing product.
I'm in the 'useless' camp as I understand the heat capacity of the liquid to be less. It is expensive, and so is the stuff to dry out the system you need to flush with too.
I believe Uncle Melvyn sells it, I'm sure I saw it in one of his advertisements in Miscellany.

yes, I too read a lot of fors and againsts and I'd agree with the cost issue. At the moment, the jury is still out with me. Corrosion, etching etc were perhaps the big issues with me I used to get quite concerned when info on the manufacturers sites, that from dealers and some of the things the factory told me all contradicted each other on some occasions

I had a chat with the Evans guy at the NEC last year and because my mog runs fairly cool - about 80C - he said that the Evans stuff did not really come into its own until the temp. was higher than that - so although he was cutting his own throat he did not think it would be worth it on my 4/4 sport.

You can see if straight Propylene glycol is available from a pharmaceutical supply. It's also used for caravan anti-freeze. The only way to tell is to test it in your vehicle. On the + side: no pressure cap needed and no hot spots in the cooling manifolds. On the - side: expensive and has less quantity for heat so that higher flow rates are desirable.
