Took my car in for it's first service at 500 miles and asked the dealer to check the tracking of the wheels as one looked to be well out of parallel to the other.
He adjusted the tracking under warranty and on driving it home I noticed how much lighter the steering was compared to previous, I am sure if it had been left the wear on one or both tyres would have been as bad as yours

Still trying to process mrpb's pics of his tires. I've got 3400 miles on my 3w and the tires look new by comparison.

Ours have just been changed at 3400 miles (first full service after 15 months).....all wear was even/centred...tyres regularly checked as running at manual spec of 22psi...down to ~3mm on one and a bit more on the other....tracking checked and said to be OK....new tyre depth 9mm....£200 contribution to service bill!!
Dealer is checking with Morgan as to whether they are changing mind on pressures.

has anyone entertained the idea of using different tires? i've been thinking about going with a more traditional sport bike tire. i got inspired when i saw some pics of the vintage trikes setup for the hill climb (borrowed pics from this thread wishbone thread )

The standard Avons are a sidecar tyre, and the Blockley is a car tyre. Both have a profile suited to a three wheeler for road use.

I suspect if you use a bike tyre, you'll wear out the middle in short order. A motor bike leans and changes angle so wears most of the tyre - a three wheeler won't, so will wear a narrow band. The reason that racers use them, I think, is that the rubber is softer, so more grip, and the shortish life is not a major problem.

If you are wearing out standard tyres a bit quickly, you'll wear out bike tyres a lot faster!

I could ask a racer, but I think I'm right.

i agree on the fast wear on the racer tires but i'd be curious on how much faster as there's quite an interesting gap in what kinds of milage people are getting on their avons. I'm about to hit 5,000 miles in mine and they almost look new whereas people on the forum are reporting near bald tires at 3,000 mile.

I suspect the disparity in tyre life is partly to do with the bump steer issue as smooth roads, the tracking will stay set, but on a bump, the tracking dynamically alters. The other issue is the base setting of tracking. It would appear there is quite some difference in the figures of different cars.

Changing to a softer bike tyre will only make the issue worse. Address the root cause before messing with tyres is my opinion.

The odometer just clocked at 5,000 miles. The fronts easily have 5,000 more in them and perhaps much more. The bump steer issue is a major item for me as the roads around here are crap and that is being kind. Toe out looks to be just about right. I'm running 25lbs in the fronts and that is working out well.

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

Has anyone moved their toe to zero? The thinking here is that when moving, the toe will go to toe out, but not be so accute as the factory recomend, should help tyre life and theoretically stop the car from diving from side to side.
