My Morgan had play in one of the front kingpins when new from the factory. When it went back to the factory for remedial work under guarantee, it was on the list. Morgan told me it was fine and within tolerance. A year later it gets a warning under MOT! I have replaced them with hard chrome when I fitted the Suplex spring kit. I got them from Hearts of England. Recommend both, along with gaiters, to keep the grit from turning your grease into grinding paste.

Many thanks for the above....I've discovered that greasing them up removes all play (not ideal). Can anyone recommend a very heavy duty, high viscosity grease - anything thicker than wheel bearing grease? 'Heart of England' (Ben Duncan)is reassuring about the small amount of play...run it for a year and then replace the kingpins. These have done about 40.000 miles...previous owner had them replaced every 15.000 whether they needed it or not.

You may find if the grease is too thick it will clog up the channels, and not do it's job.

I have passed 26000 km (16000 miles) on the original king pins (lower nipples are greased every 500 km or 300 miles). I still feel no free play. The car is due for MOT in December. When the king pins need replacement, I shall get hard chromed pins and suplex springs.

As Dave says, if you are greasing from where the oiler went (many do, I did) the channel and hole in the kingpin are very small. I had trouble even getting LM grease through and that's quite thin. Thick grease, I'd not even try.

I don't think it is suitable for suspension, but heavy grease is a bit hard to get hold of. My local farm suppliers have Castrol Heavy (or perhaps an equivalent now) but you need to buy a farm sized quantity, ie 25kG. Ok for a leaky two speeder but daft for a four wheeler. Even if it was suitable, you'd be hard put to use that much in a lifetime!

Again - many thanks. I'll carry on with LM grease which goes in easily. Just have to make sure it doesn't get on to the discs...
