Many thanks for the above....I've discovered that greasing them up removes all play (not ideal). Can anyone recommend a very heavy duty, high viscosity grease - anything thicker than wheel bearing grease? snip
You may find if the grease is too thick it will clog up the channels, and not do it's job.
As Dave says, if you are greasing from where the oiler went (many do, I did) the channel and hole in the kingpin are very small. I had trouble even getting LM grease through and that's quite thin. Thick grease, I'd not even try.
I don't think it is suitable for suspension, but heavy grease is a bit hard to get hold of. My local farm suppliers have Castrol Heavy (or perhaps an equivalent now) but you need to buy a farm sized quantity, ie 25kG. Ok for a leaky two speeder but daft for a four wheeler. Even if it was suitable, you'd be hard put to use that much in a lifetime!
