Hi, I am thinking of changing from a CVH 4/4 to a +4?
Are there any good things to look out for regarding the engine? What MPG can one expect? Performance? Good upgrades? I hear 170 bhp is possible with a chip / re-map? Thanks, Will

Hi Will,
There's been a few recent discussions on here about this. I cannot help ire toy but others have done simple and more complex upgrades. A quick search should help (remember to change how far back to look).

I would go for the later T16 in preference (but then I did a few years ago, even though i didn't keep it).

The T16 is reckoned to be a better bet. On mine I have added the Librands exhaust manifold and exhaust as did Old Bill.
I fitted a life time K&N air filter.
I haven't super chipped it yet but i did have to replace the ECU.
In 7 years of ownership the the weighted avg fuel consumption is just over 30 mpg. Driven longer distances and with less right foot I have seen 39 mpg.
Compared to the zetec 4/4 I had before the big difference is the torque especially in 3 rd with the new manifold. That makes it far less stressful to drive.
Make the change you won't regret it.

Mines an M16 and (apart from a persistant and seemingly incurrable) erratic tickover of between 900 and 1600 rpm) its a super engine. Is the T16 better? Don't know, but I'm happy with mine. Under various conditions, from v.fast continental jaunts, to pottering on english country lanes - and the M25 - I've averaged 35mpg over 3 years

Deni, when the ECU was failing on mine it would either idle perfectly, not idle or idle fast from 1500 to eventually 3000 rpm.
That might be your issue. John

Oh dear John! That sounds expensive, even if ECUs are avaliable for a car of this period. Perhaps a trip to Brands Hatch Morgan is in order, as our local garage can't seem to help.

I used an ex Rover dealer but there were plenty of replacement ECUs on the web. You send in yours and they fix or exchange it for under £100

Hi, I am thinking of changing from a CVH 4/4 to a +4?
Are there any good things to look out for regarding the engine? What MPG can one expect? Performance? Good upgrades? I hear 170 bhp is possible with a chip / re-map? Thanks, Will Plus 4s rule We got just under 36 miles per gallon(imperial) bring our new Plus 4 home from Malvern March 2012, a trip of nearly 3,000 km. Omex have a throttle body and ECU kit for the Duratec 2 litre egine that gives 170 to 185hp depending on the exhaust design. http://omextechnology.co.uk/Omex%20Duratec%20TB%20Kit%20v2_5.pdfThey work very closely with Morgan and it would not surprise me at all if a specific kit for the Plus 4 was eventually available. There is already one for the 4/4. I have to say that round the country roads etc there is no huge apparent difference in performance between the current 4/4 and the Plus 4. The lower gearing on the 4/4 and the characteristics of the engine means you have to work it a bit more and keep the revs up. The Plus 4 is probably more relaxed for touring and since the TB, ECU, and exhaust changes increase torque as well as power I would not expect these characteristics to be altered. I plan to fit a TB/ECU kit at the end of summer, I already have an Aero Racing sports exhaust system.
