This is v interesting as since my M3W had its 4000 mile service I too have noticed this "pinging/pinking/tinkling" sound - I do think its some sort of engine mapping issue - as its only on load at high revs. Could it be the ECU "playing" with the ignition?? I think it possibly is. Yesterday on a run I deliberately paused revs on the "tinkling" and then floored it - it disappeared. It is not fuel or pinking.hope this adds to the debate! cheers

Pinking - Dealer changed the inlet manifold seals and also fitted some support brackets attached to the engine and the bottom two bolts on Kurkayan air filter for better support. They also copied the air flow from the original air filter housing so it only takes in air from the bottom section. All this improved but didn't cure the fault.

Had an email from dealer (M R) last week, Morgan (S&S) have released a software (firmware) update to cure the problem, popped in last Friday, hour or so all done.

Two stainless steel struts mounted on the engine and then to the two bottom bolts of the air filter housing.

Not the best picture but you can see the strut to the right of the filter and the cover inside of the mesh.

That's what the dealer said. The air filter weighs approx 1.5kg and the added support was done to help with other issues.

The dealer by the way was Melvyn Rutter's, they made the struts for it. Send him an e-mail explaining about the struts he'll know which ones.
