Just to add my two-penny-worth as a current 4/4 owner......

No. 16 - when you take a test drive, see if you can compare the 4/4 with a +4 - the 1.8 and 2.0 engines might make all the difference for you. And if you get an opportunity to test drive an Aero8, I recommend you do so, it'll change your view on Morgans forever!

To add another "cosmetic" item to your list - bonnet louvres - you might want to consider full-length bonnet louvres over the standard.

I wholeheartedly recommend that you pay a visit to the factory before you place your order - you will get a greater appreciation of the options available and even if you only have time to take a good look at the finished cars in the dispatch area, you will be seduced by the passion that is invested in these cars.

PS. We have the PVC hood on our 4/4 and it hasn't leaked once.

I found this a very useful topic - and one that was bound to get lots of responses.

I'm planning to order a new Roadster very soon and was interested in all the comments. Obviously a test drive will be my first step.

Way back in 1970, I had a 1961 Plus 4 4 seater 1991cc TR3 engine. Absolutely loved it, and since then, I have never stopped longing to have a Morgan again. I bought my Plus 4 from Phoenix Motors in Exeter, sadly no longer trading.



I wonder what happened to this car?

Family life and all the practicalities that go with it meant that it wasn't really possible to have one again up until now. Obviously the Roadster has loads more power than my old Plus 4 did, but but I currently run a TVR Griffith 500 (0-60 in 4.2 secs) so the power will not be a surprise to me.

What are people's thoughts on a sports exhaust? My TVR has a wonderful sound with a standard exhaust as it has a Rover V8 engine (like a Plus 8 except 5 litres!). Does a sports exhaust make a massive improvement to the V6 sound or does it make it annoying on a long run. (Bound to get responses of "individual taste" but I would still like to hear other people's views).

Also, is the lack of power steering a problem, or is it something that one gets used to?

I hope that this isn't highjacking the thread, but I felt the questions in the topic related to a Roadster as much as a 4/4.

I had a 94 4/4 and now have a 97 +4 in two tone and you can see a picture but the indigo blue looks black on my pc(http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showgallery&Number=12682).

The +4 is an easier drive. The 4/4 had been super chipped, had an ITG filter & had a sports exhaust. I found it peaky like a 2 stroke motor cycle.


The 4/4 had a clock the +4 doesn't, it really doesn't bother me.

I have remote controlled sony radio cd with the remote velcro taped to the back of the dash where the clock would be. Works up to c 50 mph.

I am 5' 11" with size 10 feet & generally have no issue. Though if I wear wide shoes like my site safety shoes the space is small in the foot well.

Buy a mohair hood if you can.

The +4 didn't have handles & I didn't miss them as with the top always down it is a non issue.

Both cars had painted wires. SS would be better I think.

The +4 has an organ pedal, frankly I found no difference.

I find a tonneau is essential for one up top down driving in winter as with the passenger side zipped up you keep in more heat.
