Neil I will have to leave this part to you as I know very little about closed cell foam . Maybe a trimmer can give you a bit of advice . I could take the pee by saying closed cell !! OZZY but I can'nt think one up too tired.Been out in the mog all that fresh air and I nodded off watching only fools and horses must be zonked to miss that. Guys, in the end I decided to go the "traditional" approach and used closed cell foam under the leather. This gives good firm support for this " high stress " area and is resistant to moisture. The pic shows the old leather removed and demonstrates just what a harsh environment that is down there at the junction of the chassis and floor! The leather had obviously become wet and then dried, ( probably on more than one occasion ), shrinking as it did so, pulling away from the floor where it had been tacked down. ( straight horizontal line denotes chassis/floor line angle ) The worst area is just forward of the chassis cross member (probably related to water ingress down the leading edge of the door). The leather here was as fragile as parchment!  As always, thanks for all suggestions. Neil.

If the sun does that to the leather what does it do to your skin .  You need a bit of this

I had a look at these a couple of weeks ago fitted by the owner they scratch and mark very easy , he had not covered them with leather . But the owner was not at all bothered. They are good but remember there is no give in a solid surface as in the horse hair so if the leather is rubbed against it will scuff Good point, JTL.
