When Autoglass replaced the screen the guy managed to break off one of the studs into which are screwed the sun visors. I've tried gluing it back in but it only lasts a month or so as the inevitable body flexing pulls the stud out again.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Either a much stronger glue for metal or should I try soldering it? I'm nervous about this with it being so close to the glass.

Thanks

Ben

If Autoglass broke it, they should be responsible for the repair. I would contact Autoglass CS and ask them to have it repaired.

I am surprised that Autoglass were able to replace the screen. Is it a heated one?

Autoglass replaced the rear quarter light in my wife's Golf. This entailed removing the door skin, which is held in with screws of differing lengths. When he replaced them he mixed them up and one of the longer screws went through the door skin from inside to out where a shorter one should have been :-(

Autoglass did pay for the damage, so it's worth contacting them.

On a later occasion we had to have the windscreen replaced. The insurers sent Autoglass again, but a much better bloke this time. While doing the windscreen, he noticed that the previously replaced rear quarter light was the wrong colour ( I had spotted this but thought it was just a differing batch), and ordered one in the correct colour and came back the next day to fit it!

Yes it's heated one and they had to order it from the factory. The guy did his best but it was a bit beyond his skill set. When I got home (my wife signed for it) I noticed the stud, I also had to refit the mirror and take the dashboard off again to straighten out some of the switches. To be honest I'm not letting them anywhere near the car ever again and so I'll need to fix this myself.

If it was my screen I would wanting autoglass to replace the frame. Any permanent repair will require the glass to be removed and could damage the chrome finish.

I'm having my screen replaced on Thursday. Thankfully my insurers, Headley, accept that we Morgan owners don't want Autoglass anywhere near our cars and ask you to get a dealer to replace it.

I'm told that the factory will not supply just the glass, only the complete screen with frame attached so I'm puzzled by the original posting.

Quite correct, Headley will only have a main dealer replace the windscreen, when mine was done I was told they had too many issues with other companies damaging glass or car.

On the assumption that they would insist on Autoglass, I'd already snipped the heated screen wires and fitted a plug...so they wouldn't need to take the dash off!

Autoglass have always let me fit replacement screens myself so I now have a chopped one for touring and a perfect one for best.
