I'm new to TalkMorgan and this is my first post. Pardon if I have missed any discussion of my question. I have M3W #301 which apparently has the typical issues. Bump steer, bevel box whine, bad rectifier and now engine check light on (reason not known yet).
But my question stems from my confusion about the Morgan spec of 115 horsepower vs the delivered 82 horsepower. Are these the same but just measured at different locations? Or is the American delivered M3W version detuned for some reason such as for a California requirement?

My guess is one is the engine output and the other is what is delivered to the rear wheel. There is always a sizeable difference.

When MMC first announced the three wheeler specs, the power was quoted at 115bhp at the flywheel, which is what, I assume, S&S told Morgan the engine was producing, but in the course of getting the engine into the car with an exhaust system etc, the power seems to have been reduced to 85 at the flywheel. There are still statistics around though, which quote the original power output.

Now, whether the engine was detuned because it was either too much for the car, driver or drivetrain, can only be speculation. The pre-production mule broke the drivebelt, which had to be widened, with consequent narrowing of the rear tyre [tire guys] and maybe the bevel box wasn't able to take more torque, don't know about that though.
