As for ram mounts, they also have a British website (but most GPS places sell some of the ram mounts also.

What's good about the RAM system is that you can mix and match. So much so, that it can be a bit daunting to be honest. On the other hand, you can usually buy a different arm or something else if it's not completely right from the get-go.

Anyway, here's the link:

Do you get a reliable GPS signal with the Tom Tom, or other sat navs, when placed where shown on the pics?

I'm contemplating either a Tom Tom Rider, Garmin Zumo or possibly a smart phone.
I really want a sat nav that allows me to pre-plot touring routes, which uses sensible roads drive and won't keep trying to send me down tiny tracks mad

Suggestions most welcome

I use a Tom Tom XXL its brilliant - and joy cost only £80!

BTW in the M3W I attach it either to the Rev counter or the LHS windscreen - its better there!

You can program roads into it easily - well if I can do it anyone can!!!

Hope this helps cheers

It should work okay placed there. But don't let placement stop you, if need be, get an external hockey puck antenna (they're small) and place that higher up/more in the clear.

Edit:

I would advice against a smart phone. They're not as good as a dedicated GPS when it comes to reception (unless the smartphone allows for an external antenna), and secondly, you have to look longer to find one you can operate with gloves. If I were you, I'd consider the Garmin Monterra (über expensive, but runs Android and you can have apps on it etc.), the Garmin Montana, one of the Garmin motorcycle GPS's (Zumo, I think they're called), or another brand of motorcycle GPS.

with my TomTom Rider I have no problems with the GPS-signal, I can use it with gloves (it is made for motorcycles, so it is waterproof, you can use it with gloves and the screen is brilliant enough also in the sun). It cames with a software to produce routes on the homecomputer (TomTom Tyre) and then you can follow this route. Beside the possibility to search the quickest and the fastest route, you can search for "winding roads" and this works very well. You can also import your own POIs.

Oh I forgot, for being waterproof, there is no entrance for a wired externel GPS-Antenna, but it has bluetooth, so you could use it for phoning with your mobilephone

You can get waterproof gps's which also supports external antennas. The Montana and Monterra, but there are loads of other brands/models which has the same. Most motorcycle gps's also have a plug to make it possible to use headphones/intercom with them.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Will look more closely at the Tom Tom Rider and Garmin Zumo, but I think I will need one that accepts a remote GPS antenna, as my M3W has the updated gear lever, and the sat nav will be hidden well under the dash.

In fact, I doubt I will get to see the screen very easily, as the steering wheel and gear stick will obstruct it. Will be more reliant on verbal instructions through the intercom or swmbo. Will make a change from SLOW DOWN! Who at Morgan was responsible for putting the speedo directly in front of the passenger doh

War Bird,

I was known in TVR circles (I had 4) as the only person in the world with a TVR complete with Rev Limiter and Air Bag, now she swmbo sits beside me in M3W!! She does like driving more now though!

War Bird, Don't get too hung up over the "need" for an external antenna. all my various satnavs have worked buried under the dash of my 4/4, roof up or down without external input. The big issue is being able to see it although you could bluetooth to a helmet.
