I'm getting a good bit ahead of the project here, but something that's come to mind on my '66 +4 "MogRod" project is that I know the original radiator won't be a satisfactory cooling setup for the Ecotec motor.

Now, I've already got info for a company here in California that makes radiators which can and has done retrofitted Morgan radiators, but I just wanted to wonder aloud as to whether there's any companies out there that make either replica shells or completely upgraded radiators that will work with a classic +4. I don't want to "upgrade" the original as I'm trying to avoid doing anything like that to parts that could be used to eventually rebuild to factory spec.

Alternatively... anyone have any leads on a classic-style radiator that is physically in good shape but mechanically is in need of repairs, I can always go for the "rebuild this busted one" option.

You have a highly specific set of criteria here, and without more info I wouldn't like to make a detailed comment. I certainly don't think it is as simple as re-coring an existing Morgan radiator. Why not- in the first instance, contact peter Mulberry ( he advertises in most if not all issues of Miscellany) and ask him for some comments? Failing that, Staeside seems well blessed with amazingly talented fabricators, ( even if one only considers the guys who have put Short block Vee 8 Chevs engines into Morgans so provided you can work out things such as flow, capacity, cooling efficiency requirement ( BTUs etc) maybe that would be another angle? Try somebody like Dennis Glavis for a contact

Peter Mulberry = Mulfab

He makes all sorts of interesting performance stuff including aluminum radiators with increased core sizes as direct replacements, or bespoke race radiators.

Thanks Nigel. I'd forgotten PM's website address

Was the Burton Power info ( and the Jpeg) of any use?

I'd have to dig up the info, but if I recall Isis Imports' Ecotec swap just uses the +8 radiator (or maybe even the original +4). I know I'll want to clean up the original at some point for reuse, but don't want to mess with the one that came with the car outside of "back to factory".

Thanks for the useful leads, guys, I'll check them out when I get home from work! wine

Flaggan,

Having just gone through this with my 65 4/4, I certainly feel your pain. Some thoughts to consider:

Your current radiator may, or may not be salvageable. Any good radiator shop in your area should be able to give you a prognosis. In my case, for instance, there were many small cracks in both tanks. Re-coring was just not feasible.

I was told of a radiator shop in San Francisco that could make very close duplicates of these radiators in brass/copper and would even reapply the original maker's plate to the top tank.
But they only deal locally, and I'm on the other coast.

So I chose a new aluminum radiator from Ron Davis Racing in Arizona. The salesman there, Bill Williamson, is very knowledgeable about Morgans, and the firm as a good reputation.
After painting the unit black, the only real difference you can notice is the shape of the top tank. RDR can even duplicate that, but it adds $500 to the price. Since the cowl covers the top of the tank, the difference is not really noticeable after installation.

The product was delivered ahead of the time promised and the workmanship is excellent.

I also know people who are also very happy with Griffin Radiators in South Carolina.

Hope this helps,
Warren

Thanks Graham.
The only downside is that it makes the rest of the car rather shabby.
