What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

I have been reading various things on here with interest. I have a M3W which I bought new from Williams’ in late January. Had I read some of the things on here first I may have looked more seriously at other vehicles.
Overall I am very happy with the car, I have covered over 1500 miles, with no real problems. When I took it back Williams’ said the bevel box is noisy as is the compensator. Having only driven my own car, and their demonstrator, I do not know if it is noisier than it should be, as bevel drive will never be as quiet as an ordinary drive train. I am under the impression that the earlier cars have/had a different box to the newer ones, and that the newer type are better?
Overall I think Morgan, and or Ace, has done a very good job. The only thing that really annoys me is the lack of space around the pedals, and that there is nowhere to put your clutch foot, other than that all is well. It looks, sounds and drives well.

I don;t have a M3W but your views sum up mine on my four wheeler...works for me and I am happy - especially each time I drive it.

No, it shouldn't be "continued in a different area". Thread drift happens, and since most people on here have had (or still own) several Morgans, be they 4 wheelers orthreewheelers (both old - as in 1930s - and new), I am quite happy to listen to experiences across the brand (and beyond). Yes, this is the threewheeler subforum, but most of us read across the subforum, and when it comes to ownership of Morgans, some things are relevant across the board, even if peripherally.

If it's not strict enough for you, dare I say that this forum may not be the perfect place for you? Okay, that may sound a little harsh, but to ask for the small drift to be continued elsewhere seems somewhat arrogant and dismissive to me.

Thanks Paul J for the positively worded summary. I enjoy the forum and my earlier comment was not meant to be negative.

CMB Welcome to the TM Three Wheeler forum, or as, perhaps it should be described as the 5 speeder forum, to differentiate the modern ones from the old ones.

As far as knowing about the car before hand, I rather suspect that when you bought yours, there wasn't much knowledge about them, and anyway, there really isn't anything else comparable, so it is a Morgan or a kitcar which may be better but is most likely to be worse. Even the highly rated Triking may have its' faults,

I don't think that the bevel box fitted to the current cars, [mine was made in April] is any better than they were a year ago, some are noisy, some are quiet and some are nearly noisy but fairly quiet. They are replaceable under warranty, for two years, so just keep asking for it to be replaced until you get a quiet one. They can be quiet from the start, but you will be asked to cover a thousand miles to bed it in, and if it is still noisy, I suspect it may be replaced then. I also suspect it rather depends on how strongly you are prepared to argue your case.

I agree about the clutch leg, but some like it so it, so it is horses for courses.

By the way, are you pleased with Williams? I'm considering taking mine to them for its' first service.

I always put my clutch foot under the other leg, regardless of cars, and regardless if there is footrest for it. Okay, maybe it's not good for glossy "dress" shoes, but I never wear that kind of footwear anyway.

I have found Williams' to be excellent, so far.
As far ad the other options go I think the Triking is a good option. As you say there are very few cars that offer direct competition.
I have experience of some kit cars, but have never built one, as far as production cars go there is nothing like it. The Grinnall Scorpion III, unfortunately is a glorified track car. I worked there for a while, and the build quality is poor at best.
I guess the M3W is like anything else there are good ones and bad ones.

You would certainly think so, after all the 1909 prototype had one, all since then. Mine is ok (1930) and as far as I know, not one that is generally complained about for two and three speeders. Although truthfully the whole car is pretty noisy.

Assuming, and it is a reasonable assumption these days, the gears are correctly machined, it can only be an alignment issue; most probably the thrust of the pinion gear. I'd expect a small amount of noise due to the gear machining to go away with wear, say the aforementioned 1000 miles, but any due to thrust or alignment errors wont.

I always thought that Quaiffe had a huge amount of expertise in designing and manufacturing gear boxes, differentials etc. I cannot understand why there should be continuing problems!
