That's where I would start....becareful about over tightening....

if i was going to tighten down I would use a torque wrench - they are not to expensive to buy or hire - but do be careful without one!!If u damage the head or threads its a bigger problem!!

Cleaned the oil up and drove around 70 miles last night. No oil leakage

There are locking tabs on the manifold nuts and only one cylinder head bolt visible. I wouldn't know what to torque up to in any case and certainly wouldn't want to risk my warranty by fiddling with the engine.

Will be sorted at first service.

Don't mean to disagree but you would not get an oil leak from the head being loose or the exhaust manifold. Especially in the top part of the engine. If it were leaking around the base of the cylinder then you'd be on the right path.

I would check your oil level to make sure it has not been over filled. Then, clean the head of residue and drive it a short distance until it is at operating temp. Let the car sit overnight then check for oil around the valve cover gasket.

I will bet oil is puddling on top of the head within the valve area. When you park it the trapped oil seeps through the valve cover gasket then down the heads. The next time you drive the car the air over the engine blows it on you and the windshield for a while. Once it's gone the misting stops. This would explain why partway through your trip you changed glasses and no more mist.

If you determine this is the culprit it may be just loose valve covers, a poorly seated gasket but more importantly have the dealer check the drain passages from the heads down to the crankcase, there's a reason why there is excess oil in the top end.

It's good to have the dealer do any repairs but in my experience, the more troubleshooting you do the more likely the problem will be resolved.

That sounds as if it would more than likely be the cause - good call Redneck, even if it doesn't turn out to be the problem, it is a good place to start. As the oil is clean, it could easily trickle down and be almost impossible to see until it starts collecting, on the fins in this case.

I hope it was only a temporary apparition and it doesn't re-appear Warbird? Indian Bob, anything further on your oil leak yet?

My car is in for first service and has been examined by the dealer (a little bit more oil has sprayed onto the cowl) and discussed with the factory. According to the factory a number of rocker cover gaskets have been replaced under warranty, but the assessment of mine is that a new head gasket is required, which will arrive from the factory later this week

My dealer hasn't done this job before and rather than risk a delay causing me to miss Thrill on the Hill on Saturday, the dealer is confident that I will be ok to drive the car to the event and he will fit the new head gasket next week. Hope he's correct on that call. Easier to accept whilst its covered under warranty.

Morgan ownership isn't really for the faint hearted.........

....just part of the adventure.

Follow up...

The head gasket has been replaced and I'm told all is fine. However, I haven't driven. or even seen my car yet as the dealer is still trying to fix my brakes that started pulling to the right when I was taking in for the new head gasket

My turn for this phenomenon today. Ironically while on my way back from having some work done at the factory.



Looks like it's coming from the rocker cover.



I'll have a nose around over the weekend and report back!

BTW, does anyone know what type of gasket is used here?
