Indeed, Waldemar, I'm surprised it can be emailed and then be connected through a mini (or micro?) usb. That surprised the hell out of me, but in a good way.

Nope, but I bet it is harder to remove pinking through any of its plugs.

The OBD plug is under the fuses behind a small plate held by two small screws. It is a mini USB socket (like a lot of cell phones)

I'm interested too! How did you upload from your email to your car?

My dealer said the "pinking" (stones in the mudguards noise) is the compensator.. not something that could be fixed by ECU mapping... I would love to get it fixed though!

Hi
I would normally not touch this sort of stuff with a barge pole, but due to the tyranny of distance between the car and the dealer we have had to be a bit creative. Also the local S&S/Harley agents flat out refused to assist in any way !

The VFI unit (Variable? Fuel Injection) unit is an S&S unit and lots of info on their website. Look at Pro Tune software
The VFI seems to be protected that you cant adjust the working tune map but you can view live gauge read outs (data overload !!!) and view any fault codes.
I used a USB to mini-USB cable normally used to charge my cellphone, to link to laptop
[Initialy went down this track to check fault codes which showed when doing the manual method (engine check light will flash out codes after sequence of ignition key turns)and getting an unknown code?]
As it happens sftware readout of faults had no current issues and just a couple of quite historical ones
Then forum comments on software upgrade led me to ask dealer about it and so it came to pass

The upgrade was done via a "box" file which is simply uploaded via the software. Presumably only "approved" files accepted.
This "box" file is a small file less than 100kb in size.
I liaised with our dealer all through this who was very helpful and i appreciate them letting me have a go.

The instructions referred to "engine pinking calibration change"

Hi P964,
What scantool did you use to connect to your 3Wheeler? I have several scantools, must attach and see what information I can read. Here in the US, a company called EASE make a scantool that reads a load of data in Mode 6 and general raw data, it would be interesting to look at what "normal" data figures are from a good running car.I am busy with work right now but next month I'll record and post "good" patterns from an oscilloscope.

Hi pat.
I have just used my laptop with software called pro tune. Simply connect to VFI (ECU) by simple USB to mini- USB cable.
Pro tune free to down load from S&S cycles web site. Good manual available as well.
Really all too simple which is lucky as I have no real expertise is this area.
Best option has been to see the live gauge readouts.
I have downloaded a screen recording program (free version!) which I use to record the live gauges whilst driving. Total cost nil!
I will try to trim a small snippet and post soon.

Hi - success ! - I took my M3W back to the factory with a few niggles including the pinking. They were very efficient and a pleasure to deal with.

The main point is the later map has cured the pinking, I have only used it a couple of times since but it appears the hot starting is also better

Sorry P964, didn't see you had answered my question about "hooking up to" the 3 Wheeler ECU. I'm quite busy with projects right now but I will get time soon to play with a 3 Wheeler and this software if it is downloadable. I work a lot on modern cars as well Morgans and other British cars and we deal a lot with On Board Diagnostic data and software. Looking forward to looking at live sensor data and will post what I see.
