Being like 'Skinner's Pidgeon' I keep doing that which I believe gets positive results. Therefore before washing the car I run 3 in 1 oil along both sides of all of the Beading Strips as recommended in my handbook.

I have always believed that this process produces a moisture barrier to protect the Ash Frame, the worst spot being along the wings under the doors but I have no idea how deeply the oil can penetrate due to the tightness of the fixings?

Interestingly, during the visit to the factory last week I noticed that on current production, at any rate, the beading appears to be touching Aluminium on both sides of all of the joints where the Ash Frame runs for a depth of at least 12mm.

This is due to the amount of aluminium 'edge' that the guys hammer over the wood frame edges.

I have no idea how much 'edge' was used on our car and I will keep on using the oil pre wash, However, presumably the importance of protecting the frame should demand an 'oiling' before going out on a rainy trip?

Some people are recommending using ACF50 and applying with a small syringe as it has very good anti-corrosion properties and repels water. So if you get any rubbing due to flexing between wings, body and beading exposing aluminium it may stop any corrosion developing. I have used ACF50 on a friends recommendation and others on TM. (By the way apparently WD40 absorbs water even though it initially repels it)

I fully endorse Adrians comment on ACF 50. I think you will find that will also be endorsed by a number of TMers.

I too am an ACF50 fan, it has kept my motorbikes in good nick over the years, as well as the metal on boats. I've done a bit of digging on its reaction with rubber and plastic. Apparently it is fine on rubber compounds, i.e. not pure rubber. As far as I know there is only one product that is made of pure rubber and I can't think of a reason why you should want to spray it with ACF50. However..........each to his own.
One thing I have always done during the layup period is to spray all hoses with silicone spray to keep them supple and Armorall on the tyre walls and plastics.

Just used ACF50 on the front suspension and wiring of my M3W - it looks amazing - better than factory fresh:)) plus the reassurance of knowing that this product will help protect against corrosion:)) it is expensive but I reckon that I used way less than 10% - so it will go a long way:)) unlike say a proprietary motor cycle spray the ACF does not evaporate - so the coating seems to staying put - recommended:)))))

I use Duck Oil - - was recommended to me by a well known Morgan Repairer/Restorer. Never take wings or anything off so dont know how well its doing
