Gentlemen

To stop any inconvenience ...it may be worth checking the cooling water pipe that runs on the passenger side from the top front of the engine downwards to the bottom of the drivers side and attached to the radiator.

You need to pull the pipes for the header tank out of the way .. and look down ...my pipe was impaled on a bolt which is attached to a transverse member (bolt should be fitted other way)

The Plus 4 has three pinch points where coolant pipes rub hardware, I think most models need regular checking.

Has yours worn through Mike?

Yes, bolt was right through into pipe. Only indication was brown water on the car ...and obviously underneath - temp gauge didnt go into red ...but lost the header tank.

Dont know if engine is cooked ...didnt smell hot.

If the gauge did not pick it up (and assuming it's working) you should be fine.
