My first drive was from the transport yard to home after I purchased it and had it trucked 3500 km across the country. I had to wear a scarf around my face as my smile was so wide it was catching the wind. I also remember the transporters had pulled the choke on fully and not realising it backfired and stalled all the way home pantsdown(i still smiled)

Nothing much has changed, except I know where the choke is now.

Perry you will remember your first drive for a long time. Welcome to Morgan ownership. cheers

My first drive was back in 1978 in a 1967 4/4 in Westminster Green at John Britten Garages (no longer in existence). The car wasn't exactly in tip top condition and I remember the guy who took me out thought the Arkley kit car they produced, based on the MG midget might be a better bet.
Later that same day we called into Morris Stapleton Motors (also no longer a Morgan dealership) and drove the car that became my first Morgan, a red 1969 4/4 with bench seat, no louvers to the top of the bonnet and only two wipers. A lovely car, which in many ways I wish I still had, but two years later I swapped it for a +8!

My first drive was after the purchase. I had been dreaming about owning a 4/4 right from my early teens. I had spent many hours gazing at them, talking to people about them and occasionally sitting in one,but somehow, had never actually driven one.

So there I was climbing into my 'as new' 4/4 Sport, over in Prestwich, heading for home, via the Snake Pass.

I started with the hood up because rain was threatening and I knew that I needed to practice 'hood manouvres' before I tried to erect in a rain storm at the side of the motorway.

The first thing that hits you once you're underway, is the lack of visibility and that long bonnet at tight, busy junctions driving through Prestwich was, at first, a stressful experience, but by the time I reached the top of the Snake, I was feeling a little more confident at the controls (size 12 feet are a cramped affair in the tunnel and precise foot control can be a tricky task for a complete novice, as I found out).

At the top of the Snake, the view looked to show dry conditions so off came the hood !!

What a difference!

With my confidence levels lifing and the better visibility gained from going topless, the last bit of the drive became a hoot. By the time I pulled into my driveway, The sun was shining, and I had that feeling....you know....the feeling 'I can't believe this beautiful motor car is actually mine' wow!

The 30 year wait was finally over and the car is everything I hoped it would be....er....providing the top is down. smile

14,000 miles later and I still feel that way....it's a great feeling. The main difference is that I feel completely confident driving the car now. (Propper footwear helps an awful lot) I can position the car on the road with considerable precision and dicing the meandering 'A' road traffic is a doddle, compared to that very first drive.

What a difference a few thousand miles behind the wheel can make.

Cheers cheers

It's not that long ago ,June this year , I flew to Vancouver then took a taxi to the shipping company that had bought my 97 plus8 from the UK , it was the first time I had seen the car and the first time I had driven a Morgan ,. I left Vancouver for a 1000km first drive through the Rockies and on to home in Calgary .
Top down all the way and no regrets .

My first experience was also at John Britten's. A 1974 black 2str which he drove very fast and frightened me back to my Midget. Then in the early eighties I found Packer Duncan and sold my Elan and MGB to buy UBW825P which at that time was yellow. I thought that I had made a grave error of judgement for about two days: seventeen years later I parted with it in exchange for another, and that one, for my current car. I remember Tim Packer saying that he could never remember me test driving one, not even the first. But by then I knew that it was the car for me and it still is. As you know I found my first Mog this month and I hope that no. two is still out there- it was exported. If anyone knows of B966FOG Connaught Green 2str I'ld be glad to hear of it.

My 4/4 was the first Morgan that I drove. (I had only ever previously been a passenger) I then tried a couple of other 4/4s before buying Stanley.

My first drive was in a 4/4 in 1992 when I was looking to buy one. It wasn't quite what I was after but the second one I drove that year was, and I still own her. My only other ride in a Morgan was when I hitched a lift in one in Malvern in the early seventies.
