My first drive was after the purchase. I had been dreaming about owning a 4/4 right from my early teens. I had spent many hours gazing at them, talking to people about them and occasionally sitting in one,but somehow, had never actually driven one.
So there I was climbing into my 'as new' 4/4 Sport, over in Prestwich, heading for home, via the Snake Pass.
I started with the hood up because rain was threatening and I knew that I needed to practice 'hood manouvres' before I tried to erect in a rain storm at the side of the motorway.
The first thing that hits you once you're underway, is the lack of visibility and that long bonnet at tight, busy junctions driving through Prestwich was, at first, a stressful experience, but by the time I reached the top of the Snake, I was feeling a little more confident at the controls (size 12 feet are a cramped affair in the tunnel and precise foot control can be a tricky task for a complete novice, as I found out).
At the top of the Snake, the view looked to show dry conditions so off came the hood !!
What a difference!
With my confidence levels lifing and the better visibility gained from going topless, the last bit of the drive became a hoot. By the time I pulled into my driveway, The sun was shining, and I had that feeling....you know....the feeling 'I can't believe this beautiful motor car is actually mine' wow!
The 30 year wait was finally over and the car is everything I hoped it would be....er....providing the top is down.

14,000 miles later and I still feel that way....it's a great feeling. The main difference is that I feel completely confident driving the car now. (Propper footwear helps an awful lot) I can position the car on the road with considerable precision and dicing the meandering 'A' road traffic is a doddle, compared to that very first drive.
What a difference a few thousand miles behind the wheel can make.
Cheers
