Just out of interest does anyone know the legal position ? In the past I have used my MMC case knowing the high level brake light was covered and considered that fine provided the side brake lights worked. Is it illegal does anyone know ? Safety is another matter of course ........

Les Flics need to be able to see the third brake light if you are traveling in France.

That's certainly the line I was taking. Not so concerned about the domestic rozzers (though technically I believe probably an offence, others will know better than me) but don't want to mix it with the French who have a reputation for being, shall I say, assertive in their dealings with British motorists.
