I like to think I'm an ordinary kind of chap, easy going & respectful to old ladies and animals, that sort of thing. However, it seems my legs are too long to fit comfortably between the seat back and the pedals on a three wheeler.

I can't believe I'm alone in this, and I wonder how others manage? Or maybe I should simply run away with a circus..?

I take a 32 inch leg length in trousers. Freakish, eh?

I'm 6' 3" tall and have 34" inside leg measurement and I managed..just. Not sure I could drive for hours in a M3W but I could drive it safely.

The biggest problem for me is the size of my feet. I have to wear a very close and slim fitting driving shoe even in the 4/4.

How old is the M3W you have tried for size and what position are the pedals in? The pedals are movable forward and back a few inches by bolts through the floor. The earlier cars, with "M3W" cut out on the pedals, have less room for foward adjustment. I found that my knees hit the steering wheel on the early demo I tried so made it a condition of my order that there would be more legroom in my car. My legs are 32" and I have the pedals full forward with the seat cushion angled up about 1.5" at the front edge and find it fairly comfortable.

Like others on here try a car with the pedals moved forward. I'm 6ft 1" with 33" leg and fit in the car easily, driven it for 7 hours with no real complaints apart from the normal aches after that amount of time.

The narrower shoes are the solution for me, R M Williams boots are perfect.

I have the pedals set for wife and I so my legs do touch the bottom of steering wheel from time to time.

I'm guessing you tried a demonstrator or someone else's car. I have very long legs and had no trouble when I tried one with the pedals set well forward.

Me too jeans length 32", I lifted my seat a little bit, now its comfortable also for long rides, I have a smaller steering wheel, so no problems with my legs:

It was indeed a new car I tried, the pedals of which I was assured were already on the furthest forward position. We tried two variations of steering wheel & the knee/wheel issue can be resolved fairly swiftly, but I was still struggling with leg length room.

I will grant you that my footwear wasn't ideal, with a heel height slightly greater than that of normal shoes, and that extra distance may be the key. I'm guessing that a hinge point about an inch further from the seat is the ideal I seek. Cuban heels and wincklepicker toes are bang on trend, surely..?

I've only got dainty fairy-sized eights, so feet size shouldn't cause me any issues.

Thinking a little more deeply I think it's the angle of my foot to shin that causes the pain; if my leg was straighter then the foot/shin angle opens up. This may be why similar inside leg lengths may fit easier, perhaps.

Either way I'm sure it's not insurmountable & that some lateral thinking & light engineering will produce results. I just don't want to commit large sums on something I have to adapt before I can use..

The real problem, for me at least, and I suspect one or two other owners, is the fact that I can't tuck my clutch foot beneath the pedals, and straighten my left leg, because of course, the pedals are bottom hinged. What I have done to minimise the problem, is, like Waldemar, to raise the front of the seat by 3 - 4 inches [7 - 10cms], but using a 4"x2" [10cm x 5cm] length of wood screwed up into the plywood base, so it tucks down behind the metal chassis section that holds the seat in place. This has the effect of putting more bend into my knees with the support of the seat, so that I do not have to hover my knees in the air under the wheel. I also have a smaller steering wheel of 12" [30cms] which I find perfect, and which gives a bit of room for my knees. My inside leg is 32", so although I am not that tall at 5'8" I think my back must be relatively short and my legs quite long for my height. It's amazing how many different combinations of leg to back length there are when you start looking at it. Anyhow, I am nearly comfortable, and if I wear small soft shoes, like canvas deck shoes, I can tuck my left foot between the pedals and be relatively comfortable. However, for me, after an hour and a half, my right buttock starts going numb, even though I sometimes bring my left leg up when cruising.

I wonder how difficult it would be to change the pedals to being top hinged?

The bracing that is welded to the floor of the frame to hold the pedal assembly would have to be transferred to the top of the frame. It would also limit access from the top through that oh, so tiny hole...

Only way out I can see is a serious redesign of something that is not all that bad to something that would work a bit better. If this doesn't make any sense then blame my peckishness at having to garage my little blue bomb over the coming Winter and I am not at all happy about it!

My other comment on this involves an opinion, which is entirely mine, which has nothing to do with anything... The young man what designed this car is shorter than 5'10", weighs less than 150 lb., does not have arthritis or excessive wear and tear on his body and doesn't care one wit about this subject at all...
