is it to drive a traditional morgan as a daily car?

This may be the only way i will get to own a traditional morgan and i wondered if anyone is or has done this? Is it really only a second car or are they far from fragile and just a compromise in relation to comforts?

I use mine as my only car (cos it is)
currently V6 Roadster - 27,000 miles in two years, and I work from home and dont realy go anywear !!
Also used a LM62 (4/4) for a couple of years and before that a +4 4 seater - the children loved that, collecting from school etc.

It works great, people love to see it, you get lots of contact with other people and preferential treatment from car park attendants (but you have to invest the time in being friendly).

Definatly not fragile - I did about 100yds cross country at a roundabout in Bedford the other week (it was wet, oil on road, <add excuses here>) - then after pulling it out of the grass (with the help of some passing lory drivers) I went on and did a track day at Bedford Autodrome.

As for cruzing and such, the older 4 seater is better than a 2 seater these days. Chicks (and the others) tend to hunt in packs of two or three these days.

I even had to give a ride to a tourist (a cute drunk torist) late one night - two circuits of the Parlement Square roundabout, they never did send me the picture though <sob>.

My early 4/4s were my principle means of transport - more comfortable than the bike (Triumph 500)and I didn't get 'nearly' as wet! It was a time when people bought Morgan's as just another make of Sports Car; used them, thrashed them and bought something else. My first car was a 'Basket Case' and the two later ones could be described as moderately to Well Used! If you can do without 'modern' levels of comfort then a 'Mog'can get you from 'A to B' on a daily basis, no problem. As long as you don't plan to use the motorways, even worse with a 4 Speed box.

I think nowadays, you have to take into account all the other issues of daily life in Britain; even more than than the car its'self.

thank you both for your opinions. I guess it sounds like something modern and cheap mixed with a trad morgan would be the best route as I sense from the replies that a trad would mean some frustrations on the daily commute. There will always be days when you just want to drive to work and not have the hassle of roof leaks and other quirks.

>>not have the hassle of roof leaks and other quirks

The best way to avoid the "hastle" of roof leaks is to not put it up.
After all - if you are going to be a "Professional" idiot your public will expect you not to use the roof.

May I recomend the sheepskin hats from the firm on Thruxton Airfield - make sure you get one that covers your neck.

Oh yes - one other thing - lightweight trousers - remember your knickers - sudden cloudbursts make for amusing comments from children (so I'm told).

this could prove to be difficult if the car is used by myself for commuting. I can understand the sentiment of roof down driving, it would not always be an option in incliment weather. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

that is a thought and i thank you for your idea. I have resigned myself to waiting until i can afford to own a Morgan as a sun and fun car. I will have to save more pence but i feel it is worth it so that i really enjoy the ownership of a special car <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
