That must have hurt the driver being flung out of the car like that...hard enough getting out normally!

You can just make out the look on his face as it all went wrong. Given the car has a roll bar it must have seatbelts. A bit silly not wearing them.

Probably not very good really. People will give you tales of how well they crashed in the most unlikely vehicles but thats not scientific in any sense of the word. Small volume producers dont go through the euro ncap tests so we have no good data.
But would you want to swap your morgan for the latest most crash resistant three door hatch? And would you want it equipped with the volvo collision avoidance / auto braking system which is another step forward safety wise?

I suspect that the Morgan is better than, for example a Caaterham and it is zillions of times safer than a bike, but when compared with my multi-airbag equiped BMW 320i not!
Yes, the Beemer has bags everyway you look, ith supporting computers that, when an impact is "imminent" slams me back into a seat that is then set in the optimal position and does a load of other stuff "in preparation". But it doesn't expect much of me and allows me to listen to music, make phone calls and other stuff.
I like the Morgan for what it is: I don't want a roll bar and I don't want air bags. I certainly don't want a radio or other distractions, although I do admitt to using a sat nav. Generally I'll do as I've always done on a bike: concentrate, observe and assume everyone else want to kill me.

The driver of the Morgan in the article below was not seriously hurt. I cannot see how this was possible. On the other hand, looking at it philosophically, it makes sense: If you are lucky, you never have a serious accident. To own a Morgan you must be lucky. Hence, a Morgan is safe.Harald

Please don't take me wrong, I'm not advocating fitting Morgan Classics with air bags, but whilst browsing what is on the market recently, I saw this car at Lifes in Southport. http://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/dealer/lifes-motors-ltd/used/4511It looks to be fitted with both driver and passenger airbags, so perhaps the option is (or at least was) available for those who want it. They may help mitigate injuries in a frontal impact, but I guess they would do little for rear or side impacts, or indeed a rollover... certainly not BMW 320i levels of protection Peter! I just thought that it was an interesting addition to this thread, because it is the first Classic I have seen so equipped.
Philip.
