The beast is finally in my garage after a fantastic 500 mile drive home through the Colorado Rockies and norther New Mexico. What a great car!

Anyway, my car was ordered with the immobilizer, and I noticed after I got home that the LED doesn't ever do anything. This got me to thinking I should test the system. Sure enough, the car starts right up when the security tag is nowhere near the car. Any ideas?

Congratulations on the new machine’s arrival.
I don’t have an answer, but just a couple of questions.
1. Did it work correctly at your dealer when you picked up your M3W?
if so
2. Have you checked the battery in the security tag?
Hope it as simple as changing out the battery in the security tag.

We never went over it when I picked it up. The LED hasn't done anything at all over the period of time I've had it. I opened up the front bonnet and accessed the fuses and wires behind that inner panel. All the fuses are in place and I noted a few connectors that are disconnected. I'd be willing to bet it has to do with one of them, but I'm not about to go connecting things I don't know more info about. As an interesting note, my dealer mentioned the 12v power port wasn't connected when he did his pre sale check, I think he must have overlooked testing the immobilizer.
I have a request for help into my dealer, I'm sure he can come up with an answer, but I thought I'd bounce it off the collective in the mean time.

I'd definitely say you have problem if the LED is not doing anything. Just had a peep at mine in the garage and the LED is slowly blinking at me to highlight the immobiliser is active.

Not something you note down but from memory when the key is put in the ignition and turned to ignition on; the LED blinks furiously until the fob is brought up close to the underside of the ignition barrel, the LED then goes out and the engine can be started. There is a time limit on how long before the immobiliser gets to see the fob, if this is exceeded then ignition off and try again.

But if you don't have a slowly blinking LED at rest with no ignition on, then you probably don't have a working immobiliser.

As posted above, this is definitely an immobiliser problem. It won't be dependent upon a fuse (that would defeat the object) and there's no battery in the key-ring tag, as that's an RFID chip I assume. Needs fixing for sure, just to be safe.

My imobiliser works as Steve62 says. I wonder if one was ever fitted at the factory. Can they be retrofitted?

Yeah, mine does none of that. The key tag is an RFI chip, so no batts. I'm assuming it's there, just not hooked up.

Does anyone know where the unit is located?
