No problem Viper, it's not really a pride and joy as yet, but just an experiment outside of my usual comfort zone. Previously, the only Italian cars we have had have been one of the original Fiat Panda's (for Head Office) as we both loved the purity of Giugario's design. It was totally reliable and was a good experience.

Regarding the Beach Buggy, I looove it and it looks like its a lovely example. Very sixties indeed, do you remember Little Red Riding Bus.



I agree a great thread Harry, but I think you''re being a bit hasty on the Aero 8. Are you sure that you've been given the correct facts. I know that BHM have a very good reputation, but who are they speaking to at the factory. I am not sure that I believe the story that you are being given.

Whatever happens, I'm sure I would do what the other guys say and travel down to Monaco with the hood 'as is'. If you want a shower cover, I have a spare one that you can have FOC (if you collect from Windsor area), though it's a green one and I don't know the colour of your car. Please PM me if you want it.

When I had my Series I, chassis No: 134 the first hood was very poor and was immediately replaced by MMC under warranty. The second hood was more than serviceable and whilst there were some slight drips from it, it was more than adequate. One of the hood builders (is that what you call them ) told me that there were about six different iterations of the Series I hood so it depends very much on a) your chassis number and b)whether it has ever been re-built what kind of hood you have on your car.

We did more than 15,000+ miles with ours and found it quite acceptable. Personally, I prefer the earlier Series I hoods as they fold down flatter than the later pram types.

Aeroman - I am beginning to think that taking the Aero down as is and hoping for the best is a good plan; just wanted it in great conditions!

Would love the shower cap for that purpose - as it happens I am with my parents in Virginia Water this weekend so could easily drive over to get it on Sunday (and would love the opportunity to see your car) - if you really will accept no money, could I take you out for a drink to say thank you?

That shower cap could mean the trip down through France in an Aero with a leaky roof can be contemplated (even if it will clash with the blue paintwork )

The only issue this weekend is the Aero Club trip to Silvestone. I need to find out what time we need to be there on Saturday, as we spending the night in the area. The final GT3 race on Sunday is planned to finish at 16.55 pm. By the time we get out of Silverstone and get back it might be late. Where are you next weekend?


If it clashes too much, just pass it on to somebody with a green car on your return.

Thanks Aero - and that's a great idea; once my roof is fixed, to pass it to another owner in need! Matt C would have been a candidate...and he even has a green car.

Next weekend I am on a stag weekend, but between now and the Grand Prix I could certainly organise to come over - how is the weekend around the 10 May for you? MMC have intimated that they might be able to get the car to BHM by then - after which I would take it home to my folks' place to get the alarm fitted etc.

Alternatively, I am in Windsor next Thursday night, and although I won't be out of my meeting until 10pm at least, I could try to swing by beforehand at some point on my way there?

With regardsto Aero (And I know I've said this before, probably the last time I drove it) But I've been hooning around in theold girl toady and I'm telling you, motoring simply doesn't get much better than when you're in an Aero. The car is awesome.

Make sure you take delivery whenever that maybe...you wont regret it.

As far as the hood story goes...I'm not sure whether BHM believe what the factory are telling them either.

Viper - hear you on US muscle cars. My Dad has just picked up a '67 Shelby GT500 from the docks - he's a fanatic. Thinking of taking it to Goodwood Revival this year...

On Aero news, drove my third and fourth F355s yesterday I thought that perhaps the first two examples I looked at were a bit tired, but these (at the top of the price range) still felt a bit skittish and fragile. I have learned to go with my instinct with car purchases, and I get a nagging feeling that these would be trouble, probably of the expensive kind. So not going that way.

The two 360s I drove were very different; I have to say that build quality was a great deal better. But I really want a drop-top, and the 360 Spyder is out of my toy budget, nd I am not sure it was that much more of an event to drive than the Aero, to be quite honest Bit of a footballers' car too (although that's just prejudice on my part)

So am back to hoping that I can arrange to pick up Aeroman's shower cover too! His kind offer may just save my Monaco GP trip...

In other news, I have just discovered that while I was away last week, some scumbag has reversed into the Porsche while using my drive as a turning point, and neglected to leave a note. So into the bodyshop she goes - just as I was about to put her up for sale. It's all about the timing, isn't it!

Wondering if there's a market for inventing fenders for london cars while they are parked up, like the ones you see on boats on the thames...!
