Just had my 2013, USA.specification Three wheeler flat bed towed home. It suddenly lost power and stalled while on a highway off ramp near home after a 5 mile journey. It has 2,700 miles on it, full tank of gas and a charged battery. The starter works fine, it just would not not catch and run yesterday.
I noticed that when I turned on the ignition, I could not hear the zzzzzz sound from the fuel pump.
Today (one day later) I turned on the ignition, heard a low but uneven zzzz sound from the back, and it started right up, but died 10 seconds later as I was backing it out for a test run. Again, now, no sound from the fuel pump. Also the check engine light is on.
I assume the fuel pump ALWAYS cycles when the ignition is turned on, even repeatedly?
Would love to fix this myself if possible (dealer is far away).

Have you played with the inertial reset switch under the front bonnet?

Is there a relay on the fuel pump? If so worth a check.
Or could it be a build up of pressure in the tank that has now vented? Seem to recall (possibly wrongly) reading about this somewhere.

I've had a similar problem on mine , it turned out to be a bad earth to the pump .
Also , as BurqueDOKA suggests , check the connections to the reset switch as that also gave similar symptoms on an earlier breakdown !

Has to be the reset switch (I had this on a TVR) or the wiring to the pump. Check the pump first IMHO.

My dealer in Pa.,USA recently had to collect an almost brand new M3W with the same problem. Turned out to be a faulty fuel pump. I was surprised to learn that it was a BMW unit. At the time I figured that this must be a fluke. Now, two different trikes. hmmmm. Disappointing.

I will check the ground (earth) wire next. And where exactly is the reset switch under the front bonnet - is it under the rectangular fuse and relay cover against the firewall?

The reset switch is near the front of the battery , tucked away under one of the oil lines coming out of the tank . It has a rubber covered button on the top . I imagine US spec is the same .

Mine, September 2012 build, was the one the Pennsylvania dealer replaced the faulty fuel pump at 1100 miles. Took Morgan 6 weeks to supply a replacement. The only German part on the car failed. Can'tlame Lucas.

Today the pump did cycle and it started but ran for about 8 seconds before dying. Then, as before, no more sound from the pump and she would not restart.
Pressing the reset switch did not help. I managed to remove the black plastic cover which is partially silicon-sealed to the fuel tubes, and verified the unit shows BMW markings. I did not test the power leads but will do so tomorrow.
86mog, did they replace the entire assembly or just the pump that is part of it? You wouldn't happen to have a part number?
