Someone kindly alerted me to the fact that my brake lights are not working tonight, I have checked the fuses and all seems fine in there. Any ideas?? where is brake light switch as will be my first port of call?

Look in front of the pedal. If like later trads, there's a courtesy light type switch.
Otherwise it may be a pressure switch in the hydraulic line under the bonnet.

Chris,
It will be the pressure switch in the hydraulic line under the bonnet / off side front wing, easy fix and not a lot of time / money. Take it to your nearest dealer.

Great thanks, does anyone have the generic part number for the switch? Same as Trad? Does the wing have to come off?

Had the same fault on mine a few years ago, and it was the switch. Can't remember for sure where it's located, but I have a feeling I took the left wing off to access the oil filter area.

Chris,
Had mine replaced by Techniques last year, it took about 20 minutes, front offside jacked up wheel off and pressure switch replaced without bleeding the system and taking the wing off. Cost was about £45 including the part. I believe this is a standard factory part.

Thanks guys for all your help, it can indeed be replaced very easily by removing only the wheel on the drivers side(RHD)the part number is SMB 426 by Lucas which can be purchased on eBay for £9.99 delivered. I had to pay £24 at Morgan but then I had no choice because I didn't know the part number. I suggest all S1 owners take a note of this.
