The dreaded MIl warning light came on for the !st time yesterday(I hadn't driven the car for 3 weeks)After a short run ,it remained illuminated so I went for a20mile fairly high speed run and didn't spare the horses.Turned the ignition off and then switched on again-MIL light went out and has been OK since.Any ideas on what may have caused the problem in the 1st.place,and anything I can do to prevent a problem in the future?

It is not the cat or the light would have stayed on. Without reading the error stored in the ECU there is no way of knowing what the problem is.
For very little money you can get a Bluetooth OBD2 adaptor and an app called Torque if you have an android phone. If you have another type of phone there are probably other solutions. Apple does not like many Bluetooth systems but I think you can get wifi adaptors too.
Search for OBD2 on TM.

many thanks for your help,great news that the Cat is ok.Incidently,the engine is running beautifully with no misfire or flat spot.so,as is often the case,I'm thinking that maybe its an intermittent sensor problem.

It seems to be a common problem on Roadsters but more so on the S2. Buy yourself an OBD2 reader off fleabay for about £10 and check if there are any fault codes. Its always worth carrying one in the car and so easy for a quick check to make sure its nothing too serious.

Both the S2 Roadsters I have owned suffered from this problem. On the first car the light would come on every 100 miles without fail. On the second car it is more intermittent but it is invariably the fault code indicates " lambda sensor, slow to respond". After a while it switches itself off so I now just ignore it. If there is a serious problem, the car will go into a "limp home mode" and then it will need dealer attention. The S1 Roadster I had never gave any problem with the MIL light.

My 2011 Roadster seems to prefer to wait until the dashboard red ignition light goes out before firing the engine. Was told this allows the engine to "pre-set" before firing.
No idea if this is fact or fiction - all I can say is no engine warning light illuminated since I followed this starting procedure.

Don. Don, exactly the same problem I had. The original lambda sensors Morgan fit age and their response slows. There are two options, either get an OBD reset tool and kill the light or buy new lambda sensors that are of better quality.

The winking MIL and Morgan's inability to stop it winking was a factor in my descision to switch from Morgan to Lotus
My Roadster was a 2010/11 model so the problem has been ongoing for the lifespan of the 3.0 L
