Museum Mystery Morgan Model
On the way back from Birmingham yesterday, Mrs. W and I paid a visit to the Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon. Amongst a random display of apparently unconnected artefacts I spotted this. It appears to be a model of a convertible Plus Four Plus, was such a car ever envisaged? Does anyone know anything about the model, there were no captions in the display. (Apologies for the poor quality pictures, as I said it was an unscheduled visit so I only had my phone to take photos with).

Lovely looking model.
I think I can imagine how great that would have looked when it was first made and presented to the board.

Possibly but very few fibreglass bodied cars did well. The exception, perhaps, is Lotus. at that time also Corvette and Alpine A110

Lotus (Elan) sold well, and expensively on the back of their F1 exploits. They were right up there with the best at that time. But once they tried to go upmarket..................

Hi - I'm David Hunt, ex MSCC member(long ago) and designer of the "mystery"Morgan model at Gaydon. There should be a caption explaining some of its history - I will speak to the Curator in order to get it replaced.
Briefly, it was my design submitted to Peter Morgan for a "modernised" plus four on the existing chassis and using as many existing supply line components as possible. It was to have "American"" appeal.
As is well known, my design was rejected in favour of the EB Plastics idea.
For those of you who might have old copies of Miscellany - I wrote a small piece which is on page 46 of the June 1984 edition. I still have the original drawings dated 17/3/1960.
I hope this solves the mystery. Happy Christmas.
