Oh no. I wait until it slows to idle. I just don't wait long enough for it to idle out all the excess from revving.

Ah. My neighbour insists on switching off when it's at the peak of revs. Guess it doesn't matter overmuch with fuel injection, but not good with carbs.

The slightest amount of fast idle can cause dieseling with carbs and modern fuel.
MGB's are very sensitive to this. Below 800rpm is better, but idle may be lumpy.

Check the timing and make sure idle speed is low enough.
