Good point Cereal - as much as cut slicks sound fun, I'm rarely exceeding the limits in a set of 5 year old z's so its probably overkill to get race car rubber.
Yokohama SS or Toyos are probably the right call... Will check out the federals though.
Got some p6000s Cinturatos on the 911 at the moment and they are getting dicy already in the cold. Winter tyres for that one by the weekend for me. I think..

I find the Avon's predictable in both the wet and dry IE if the rear end breaks away its always been very controllable. (So far) For me its a why mend it if it aint broke.

For me it's the fact that my tyres are 6 years old in Jan, which makes me think it's time to replace them - they were certainly less than perfect this summer at times...

I hate the stock Avons. I have always put Toyo's on the Aero and the Ferrari. The Vignale has them now too, but they are not TIR's on that, they have a vintage look to them in keeping with a 49 year old car.

Hi Folks,
I need a new set of boots for mainly road use and the occasional track use. Ride and noise are important but I would like a grippy tyre too.
Apparently the Avon ZZ3 tyre is no longer available - that's what I've had on the car from new...
Have been told the Toyo Proxes are rather noisy for road use - does anyone have experience of these?
I like Yokohamas but there are so many to choose from. Does anyone have experience of these? Especially the AD08, or AO48, SS, or Advan Sport V105. This V105 might be quieter.
It's all rather a lottery and difficult to get real useful advice.
Finally, have heard that some tyres can foul the airbox or filter inside the wing so any comments on that would be gratefully accepted!
Clearly the Aero is fairly light compared to other cars typically using high performance tyres. Does anyone recommend a brand that suits lighter cars?

I have been running the Toyo Proxes on my S3 for 8000miles and found them far superior to the original ZZ3s, Still easy to fishtail but they have a good wet weather reputation.

Have decided to go with the new Avon ZZ5 tyre which looks like a direct replacement for the ZZ3. It seems quiet which is good for mainly road use, and should be an improvement on the ZZ3 in most ways I suppose. It should also fit without rubbing against anything I guess!!
