Double sided automotive trim tape, about 1 inch wide, works for my California plate (made of aluminum). Make sure to clean all surfaces with a degreaser. I used to 5 inch strips and it is very secure, even on our 90 degree summer days. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en...3beK4JN83P3JZgl

Do we not need one by law?
From the bits I've rad hear and elsewhere it would appear that the number plate is only needed for MOT and for no other reason. I relocated mine some time ago, as it was grounding out on speed bumps and then eventually fell off, honestly officer. Strangely though it seemed to change colour when this happened.

I run without a front plate and a black and silver motorcycle sized rear, plod has had a good look and I've been followed a few times but never pulled.
DVLA guidance "motor cycles and motor tricycles registered after 2001 do not need to display a front numberplate'.
I have printed this off and carry it with me.

I think this has come up before. I don't like front number plates - faffy things that as Asbo Jon says get in the way. The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 are the relevant Govt bumf. Part II Section 6 (5)says: "In the case of a motor cycle or a motor tricycle which does not have a body of a type which is characteristic of the body of a four-wheeled vehicle— (a) a registration plate must not be fixed on the front of a vehicle if it was first registered on or after 1st September 2001, (b) a plate need not be fixed on the front of the vehicle if it was first registered before 1st September 2001." So no front plate allowed for a M3W five speeder. Depending on how you interpret the 'body of a type' clause. And a pre-2001 M3W can take its pick. www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2001/561/pdfs/uksi_20010561_en.pdf Notlob

There is no doubt IMHO that the M3W looks better without a front plate - and u do not need one!! I bought a "MOG" plate and love seeing it "up front" BUT when this delight fades I intend to follow ASBOs lead and buy a B/W classic metal version for the rear only. They are illegal - but I hear that u are v v v unlikely to get "done" for having them on! Unless u know differently??? BTW love the look of yr car ASBO - not just because mine is also Black!!
