Ok, looks like that plastic shelf needs to come out.
Wirewheel - you said you had taken the shelf out a number of times. Was that to grease the suspension, or is there something else lurking under there that I should know about and be maintaining ?

Now if there was a nice modern rear suspension with a monoleaf spring or coils there would be no need to worry about it

It was originally to look at the battery setup and to check for splits on the hand brake cables and to just have a general look. Subsequent to doing the look and see I then just this autumn cabled up the CTEK charger with fuse to the battery.

Now if there was a nice modern rear suspension with a monoleaf spring or coils there would be no need to worry about it Peter, I was talking to one of the guys from Suplex and he mentioned a GRP/Kevlar monoleaf spring possibility. BUT unlike the front upgrde fitting rear springs isn't easy: Mike at Williams estimated 10 hours labour...so that is £800 to start. I'd guess the full job will be over £2K, perhaps near to £3K with new shocks, Panhard rod and anti tramp bars.
