Chaps, would like to have one of these fitted to whatever car I buy; where is the best place to source one, either to fit myself or ask the dealer to fit for me pre delivery - if the latter, how much labour do you think I'm looking at?
I assume the stuff found on the internet, including generic looking ones for the E39 BMW is not acceptable; are there any brands I should be looking at, and where do I find them?
The BHM car has a shortened shift - literally the shaft has been cut down, and while it shifted very nicely, it didn't have the snicky nature of a true quick shifter that I would like...
Help appreciated, as ever!

All the quick shift is is a shorter gearstick - nothing done to internals..
It's quicker to shift and you don't have to push it as far....
Mine was factory supplied, and fitting was < 1hr labour.

Is that really all it is - not even a modified linkage?
Mine has a shortened gear lever, which works quite well...I thought that it was a bodge (even if it's a bodge that works OK)!

I did not bother with the sort shifter but just fitted the Aero America gear knob which is about 1 inch shorter overall than the OE knob.

Yeah that’s an idea Phil, I don’t have the standard BMW gear knob, I replaced it with this one…  I think its almost as long though, may give your suggestion a go first.

It looks exactly like the MMC "Le Mans" gear knob - and is (I'm pretty sure) made by Richbrook - it's their "Touring" gear knob - available online for 22 pounds delivered as opposed to the 75 odd pounds it costs from the factory! Well worth it.
Have one for fitting to my car with the shortened gear stick - it just fits with 3 grub screws, so will happily go onto a cut down stick, effectively making you a short shifter for very little...
