I'm half serious here - not because of the glow, but for all the other properties of inconel: It's much stronger than steel, it doesn't get brittle to anywhere near the same degree as stainless (or titanium for that matter), and as a result, you can build them much thinner, and therefore much lighter. And not only that, it's very corrosion resistant. The only problem is, of course, price. It will cost perhaps double that of stainless, and it's not easy to work with. But as the header "layout" of the M3W is a simple one, it shouldn't be too difficult (I imagine).
Interesting properties, but I'm not sure that anyone with a Three Wheeler will ever need them. Whilst the car is 100kgs overweight, I fancy there are more immediate and cost effective ways to save weight. Having said that, I rather fancy the look of my beige car with glowing black pipes though.
Warning - if you leave a plug lead off or fit it incorrectly - or if you notice your MW3 go onto 1 cylinder - STOP. I am not talking about splitfire ( lumpy firing every other cylinder or 4 revolutions instead of 2 ) when you are stuck in a jam! The result will be that fuel keeps getting squirted into the non-firing cylinder and an internal cat/exhaust pipe fire will occur! Gets so hot the mounting rubbers catch fire and scorch the paintwork requiring a re-spray and complete new exhaust system on that side. Be warned!
Happened to be when my plug lead "worked loose" and fell off, limped a few miles to the dealer and was red faced when he just put the plug lead back on.
Chap following said i was issuing flames from the exhaust affected.
My whole exhaust blued on that side; test polishing shows it can be polished back to it former shiney state; when i have the time or inclination.
