The BMW stock headers remain common to the sports exhaust system.

First thing to do is find out exactly what the fault is and then go from there. Changing the sensors is not going to cost all that much and may be worth a try, if that seems to be the source of the problem.

Hi Deano

The headers I was referring to are made by Mulfab. Would I be right in thinking that these don't mate with the existing Aero sports exhaust systems?

If that's the case, then I would have to invest in a whole new system and that would be very expensive...! ooo

Imagine all that expense just to stop the engine management light from coming on and staying on ...

Max - the improved headers were designed for the series 1 (cereal 1 correct me if I'm incorrect). Therefore those particular ones won't be a solution for an Aeromax...

Not sure any other 'max owners having the issue? I've seen it once in mine after a long run and after turning the car off and restarting it was gone. (No Italian tune up required).

If its happening repeatedly, then it points to another issue.

Everything is packed in tight under the bonnet, and knock on effects are possible. Check everything obvious, coolant and oil as a starting point - if the engine is running hot then the electrics can potentially go a bit wonky. There are several common fail points out there due to heat soak - e.g. Power steering failure, brake light check light and other electrical warnings can happen due to the above. Screenwash leaks under the hood due to a split pipe can also make the dash light up like a Christmas tree too..

Having run 4 Aeros over 10 years, I've generally discovered that electrics are the weakest link, and unnaturally hot, wet, damp, cold days are when these issues tend to be most likely to occur...

I don't have anything other than anecdotal evidence for the above, but I do t think its particularly controversial in concept.

I'll try starting the car immediately after it has been on a long run on your suggestion and see what happens. I'll also be changing the coolant from glycol to the waterless variety (it's a little overdue for renewal now after 4 years) as this new liquid seems to cool the engine better.

Apart from the rest of the electrics behaving themselves, the only "problem child" is that b****y engine management light! swear

I'll have to get back to you on this. I haven't got the OBD yet (I bought it on-line, but it's not delivered yet...) smile

Ah ok.
Hopefully it will be a "talking" error, I hope.
